I woke up to the sound of a rock hitting somewhere. I hurriedly wore my glasses and checked the time. It was 2 in the morning, and I am now wondering if I should check the ruckus outside. It might be a trap, a vampire hiding in the dark as it waits for me to be lured outside. But then I remembered that vampires aren't real, so it would probably be a serial killer who abducts kids like me and sell them to the black market, or maybe it's just a cat or some hedgehog waiting for someone to cuddle them.
I looked out of the window, and there I saw a girl in the backyard, kicking the rocks as it hits the fences, which explains the noise. I went to the backyard to take a better look of her, and as soon as I saw her, I decided that this is one of the greatest regrets I'll ever have in my whole life.
She had this bad girl aura with her. With her 'rebel starter pack' which includes a denim jacket, combat boots, black ripped jeans and a black tank top, she was definitely the town rebel my parents were talking about. I wanted to see her face so I went near, suddenly I stepped on a stick that made a cracking sound, making her give me a look of terror, and believe me, she's pretty but scary at that time. After a minute of the glare she gave me, I think she finally realized that I can do her no harm, which I am slightly offended of but at the same time glad.
"W-why are you so pissed off?" I asked in a timid voice.
She looked at me with a motionless face.
"I can hear it through the walls that's why I decided to check it out." I spoke up again, trying to get a hint of her reaction.
She sat down at the stool and started to play with her lighter, "It's late now, shouldn't you be in bed?" she asked.
"How about you, why aren't you sleeping?"
She stared at me, and for the moment I thought I was going to melt in nervousness, until she laughed.
"Wow. You are one hell of a kid." she laughed.
"Yeah, I guess so." I chuckled as I adjusted my glasses.
She stood up and took her backpack, "Where are you going?" I asked.
"Where am I going? I don't even know. Probably somewhere better than here," she answered with a grin.
"Somewhere? Isn't it much safer staying here? It's two in the morning and it's so dark in the streets, who knows who you'll bump into. Plus, you don't even know where you're going,"
She scoffed, "Look who's talking. I'm not a kid, okay? I think you don't even know who I am," she said as she tied her hair up in a messy bun.
"I got to go, boy. Go to bed and don't let the bed bugs bite." she said as she ruffled my hair.
And at that moment, I felt alive. And at that moment, everything just felt right. And at that moment, I was a bird who finally got out of the cage after years.
