Note to Kev-Kev: it'll probably be a little awkward reading this chapter.
Not that anything ~ u n u s u a l ~ happens.
Okay, that sounded weird.
The parents are involved. Again. And everything is so dramatic it's almost cheesy.
Note to Ally (and the other people who just can't wait for the next update): I put studying for finals aside to write this chapter. Personally, I think it was worth it. My parents probably won't.
I'll just cram during lunch.
And I finished this in a day! Wooooo!
~ Chapter 4 ~
I couldn't believe it.
Lily was actually trying to sabotage me.
I thought she cared. She was my friend.
Was.
Jono was already gone by now. I had no chance to catch up to him. I had to find Lily.
I was about to run in the direction she had left when my dad's car pulled up by the library. He rolled the window down.
"Dad?" I prepared myself for the wave of anger.
Instead, he sounded desperate. "Kevin, we have to go home. Now."
"Why?"
"I need to tell you something."
"Why can't you just tell me here?"
"It's complicated."
"Is it about Jono?"
He took a deep breath. "Yes, and it's not good."
I got in the car immediately.
After an oddly silent ride home, I ran inside and my mom handed me her phone.
"It's Jono's parents," she whispered.
"Hello?" I didn't know what to say.
"Is this Kevin?" It was his mom. her voice was full of worry.
"Yes. Did something happen?"
"I'm so sorry I have to tell you this," she was crying. "He was hit by a car."
I fainted. The last thing I saw was my mom's worried face right after she caught me.
* * * * * * * * * *
I opened my eyes. It was silent. Instead of seeing my parents and the living room, I saw Jono standing on a promontory, staring off into the sunset. I ran after him, trying to reach him, but I was pulled back.
I fell into a pit of darkness as his voice echoed in my head: "Kevin, how could you?"
It suddenly changed to Lily's voice. "I thought we had something." (EHEHEHEHE see what I did there? Was the repetition obvious in the last chapter?)
I saw the lipstick on Jono's thumb and watched as it turned to blood (ooh Kev-Kev, having some dark thoughts).
It dripped rhythmically, the sounds slowly growing fainter, when suddenly...
The squeal of tires against pavements grew louder.
THUD.
I woke up.
My parents had seated me at the table, both of them with "look, we have to talk" faces.
My mom placed her hand on my shoulder. "Kevin, we're sorry you had to hear this."
