Preface: It was raining, pouring actually. I watched people run into their houses from my window. You could hear the rain pounding on the roof. It sounded like our house was built right underneath niagrafalls. I could see the streets were building with water and people were now running around getting in cars and quickly driving away. What was happening? Why was everyone panicking? We live in the mountains of Montana, it always rains and every one just sits inside or walks around with these weird plastic stick with a towel on top. All of a sudden I heard it the rush of a giant wave. And I knew something bad was about to happen.

Chapter 1:

I was down stairs in the kitchen starring at my food dish waiting and wishing for any sign of food. I heard foot steps coming down stairs and then Maggie (the 7 year old twin to Margret) came skipping into the kitchen. "Oh hello Kary (car-e)." she said patting my head. I stared at her and licked my lips. Even though I didn't hear "food" or "eat" in that sentence i still hoped she was going to feed me. But she didn't. Ann came in (she was maggie and Margrets mom) I licked my lips hope that food would follow. All she did was open some drawers and cabinets and then she flipped some switched and turned some knobs and before I knew it a big heaping panful of eggs were wafting through the house. I ran to her feet and sat their hoping the meal was for me. She turned around and tripped on me balancing herself on the counter. "Oh, Kary you need to move!" I looked at her and then my empty food bowl and licked my lips. "Oh my goodness I forgot to feed you!" She opened another cabinet and brought out a bin of KIBBLES! She poured a

cup full in my dish and I literally inhaled it. Yum I was full. Margret came downstairs and sat down on the couch with Maggie. They sat in silence with there fluffy little fake animals. They stared at a box on a table with changing pictures and different sounds coming out of it. Ben (the children's dad) came into the dinning room with the 2 year old Timothy. Timothy was very funny looking. Maggie and margret used to look like, fuzz on the top of their head head and small or barley any teeth. He barley talked and walked oddly. Most the time he was a bad child just like how I am sometime a bad dog. Ben placed timothy in a tall chair with a small table attached to it. He played with a small rubber car. Ben read some weird grayish paper with small printing. It didn't smell very good either.Ann called the girls to the table and they all ate a delish smelling breakfast. I sat under the table waiting for scrapes to fall. Timothy always had something for me.

Through out the day the children played and Ann always had little things to do. Ben left every day to go some where called "Toyata car dealership". In other words, work. Around 3 pm Ben came home. He was earlier than usual. That's ok maybe he would take me for a walk. He went over to the room with the couch and box. Ann was dusting a table. I followed Ben in hope for a walk. "Hey honey. Why are you home so early?" she asked. Ben pulled the blinds of the window open. "Wow it is very rainy." "Hun apparently a big storm is coming." I knew storm meant dark loud and scary. About 20 minuets after all the lights and electricity went out. Ben brought out sticks that would make light and he played with fire untill there was a small flame of light. The children sat on the couch with pieces of rectangle papers. Every so often one would say, go fish or hooray! I went to the front door and peered out the double windows. Rain was falling in big clumps and no one was outside.

Chapter 2:

I had fallen asleep when the sound of pounding woke me up. I jumped up and began barking. Ben came in an sushed me. Apperently it was just the rain. I didn't believe him. I knew rain and it didn't sound like that. Ann came over to ben and looked out the window. "Wow it's really raining cats and dogs out there huh." she asked. No it wasn't. There was not adog or a cat in sight. They went back to Margret, Maggie and Tim. I kept watching and the rain kept coming harder and louder untill it was so rainy it started building up in the streets.

At first only a couple people would run to their cars with some belongings and more and more came rushing out. Some with pets. I saw Callie the beagal and Leslie from next door zoom off. I plopped myself in the couch room. A small flicker of light came from the box. I couldn't read but I didn't need to because Ben read it outloud. "Warning serviour flood warnings." Every one got up. I could feel the panick coming off of Ben and Ann as they ran around collecting items and putting them in large bags. I peered out the window again and then I heard it. A loud rumble. The earth began to tremble. I barked as everyone scrambled around. Why didn't they hear this? I barked again and just as I did a wave of water busted down the door. "KIDS!" Ben screamed dropping everything and grabbing Timothy and Maggie. Ann held Margret and they ran upstairs. "KARY! Kary come here girl, come!" they were all piled upstairs calling my name. I seemed to be glued to my spot. I couldn't move. The water was up to my shoulders. I stared at them and started to whimper. "She's to shocked honey! Kary come, come!" Ann screamed panickley. Ben set the kids down and ran to the bottom of the stairs. The water was up to his knees as he reached the bottom. He reached out to me. "Come girl, please." he spoke softly. I picked up one foot and then the other slowly making my toward him. His hand made contact with my collar and pulled me up. Since I was a golden retriever I could swim. But I was 7 years old in human years and something had made my body not want to move the water had risen quickly and was almost to the top of the stairs. I was covered and shivering frantiqully. A tree fell on the roof and some pieces of house floated away. "A tsunami." was all that Ben said before he grabbed a floating piece of door. One by one Ann, Maggie,Margret, Timothy and Ben climbed on. The door was still floating so that was good. The door began to float away. Ben gripped my collar and was pulling me onboard untill, my collar slipped off and they were flatly floating over cars. People were every where on roofs and swimming. "No KARY, KARY!" I swam faster trying to get to my floating family. I had to protect them, take care of them, comfort them. I was there dog. I tried to paddle faster untill I couldn't I froze in space. My paws could work right and then they slipped away, among all the rebel and water, they were gone.

Chapter 3:

I was being tossed between waves. I couldn't swim. I slowly moved my paws back and forth to stay a float. A very long time later all my energy was gone. No human was in sight. Nothing was floating by. My feet tried to find contact with and piece of land or solid item. I was about to stop trying to swim away when a small recliner floated by. It passed me but I had to catch up with it. I swam. Faster and faster and faster. I was so close to it, I could almost feel it. Then it got stuck it a tree branch. I crawled up onto just before it started floating again. I didn't care where this thing went, I was just so happy I was on something comfy and solid. I felt like a bad dog because I was never aloud to be on the furniture but this problem had to be an acception to the rule. I was so worried that something bad might have happened to my family. I whimpered again thinking of how much I wanted to be home. Wanted to be snuggling with my two girls. I was soaking and freezing. I curled up into a tight ball and fell asleep.

I woke up and I was still in a ton of water, floating around in a big red felt recliner. Still no humans in sight. I didn't her anything but rushing water. No birds or insects were around. The rain had stopped, well it was a light drizzle but the water was still, if not higher, than it was before. There was no land or food. I was starving. I never got dinner last night and now I had no breakfast. I had a feeling that I was going to have an empty stomach for quite some time. I lay, my head hung over the side of the recliner, watching different objects float by. Pencil, log, book, towel, plastic paper, pots and pans, and a whole lot of other no edible junk. Then a fuzzy(wet) blue blanket floated by. I shivered. I stretched far my toes grabbing the fabric, not wanting to fall in the water, because if I did I might not find surface anywhere else. I tried paddleing my way over to the ball of sloshy blanket. I finally got it in my mouth and struggled to bring it on board. It was heavy , and soaking. It wasn't very warm and soft either. I knew I would never be all the way dry because I was surrounded by water, the chair soaked up and the blanket probably would always be moist. Throught out the day the only food that had floated by was a old peice of bread. I grabbed it in my mouth but it dissolved and mushed away because it was so wet. I wish something in a can or container would come by because it wouldn't be as soaked, but everything like that probably sank. And I don't know how to open a can.
