The first time he opened his eyes, amidst the smoke, rubble and hay. Two pairs of eyes gazed down at him.
Curious, confused, wonder.
They picked him up and cradled him. He didn't know why but somehow he felt reassured. Safe in the arms of these two strangers.
He saw the world.
It wasn't long before Clark felt like the world around him was moving at a fast pace and he was stuck to the ground. On a winter's night, among the supper that Martha and Jonathan Kent had made for them. He heard a noise.
Thump - thump
Thump - thump
Thump - thumpHe panicked and covered his ears, but still the rapid beat won't stop.
"Clark, honey, what's wrong?" His mother asked as she went to him. But as she drew closer, the continuous beat gets louder. He stared at the middle of her chest and knew.
That night, he went up to the roof and looked at the stars.
Bright, shining, and beautiful.
He took a deep breath and slowly exhaled. His father went up and settled beside him.
"When your mother and I first found you, you were on a ship. We didn't know where you came from or who your parents were, but we couldn't just leave you. We took you and raised you as our own. We love you. You were a blessing to us. This is your world, Clark. You belong here. Don't ever think you're different."

The first time Clark went out of the farm and to the city, he was quite unsure but excited at the prospect of a new destination. He fiercely hugged and kissed his parents goodbye before setting out on his way.
He is now a reporter for The Daily Planet. He was met by cold coffee, scattered pens, crumpled papers and deadlines.
"Good God, smallville, clean up your desk, would ya?" Lois Lane scolded as she hit his head with her folder.
"Will do, Lois." Snickering at her as he rubbed at the spot.
"Hey, mister Kent! Take a look at these pictures I took of the new hospital they're building at Metropolis Avenue." Jimmy Olsen excitedly said as he ran to Clark.
"They look good, Jimmy. Good job!" He complimented the young photographer. He beamed at Clark seemingly proud of himself.
"I know, right? They're calling it Metropolis Center. It's really cool because it has advanced equipments that a guy from Got--"
"Kent! You better be done with that report or I'll give your job to the copy boy!"
"Yes, Chief! Jimmy, I have to finish this report. I'll talk to you later, okay?" He told the kid.
"Oh, no problem, mister Kent. I'm sure Chief forgot to take his pills that's why he's feeling a little bit under the weather." Jimmy joked.
"Olsen!" Chief shouted as Jimmy ran away to hide. Clark chuckled at his antics. He started to type again. After a few hours, he was done. He stretched in his seat and looked out of the window. He took in the tall buildings, skyscrapers that seemed to caress the clouds. Winds that has a distinct smell of smoke.
Metropolis.
Very different from the wide and open space of corn fields in Kansas, but still it was beautiful. It was his city.
This is his world.

"Oh, Superman! Thank you! Bless you, Superman!" The woman cried as Superman handed the wailing child into her arms. He had just saved the child from a fire that went out of control. He had put it out using his ice breath before fire and rescue arrived.
