RING RING RING!!! my alarm went off. I woke up from another empty sleep. I just felt so empty sometimes. My name is Jay, hello there.  I open my eyes to the bright sunlight beaming through my cell's window. I was at an all boys academy of science, apparently we were the last hopes of finding a cure for the Johanna virus, I groggily move from my bed on the lower bunk. You probably don't know it, but the world is still in ruins from the last great war. 200 years ago the great war was unleashed. The cause of the was was power, it's always power, control, evil. I despise all those who value power over human life. The was was not just a nuclear war, but a biochemical war. A virus was unleashed into the world and no one could fathom what would happen next.

The Johanna virus was originally invented to stop the nervous system of a target and the immune system. This would allow the disease to spread easily, but no one would predict the mutation that would occur. The Johanna virus quickly mutated and caused everyone who was affected to become sterile. During the war lots of lives were lost, and the virus claimed many more. Over 90 percent of the worlds population perished within the 100 years. Now approximately 1 million humans remain, 400,00 Adults, 100,000, Elders, 400,000 teens and adolescents. Humanity is on its last limb. Everyone on this planet has been confirmed with a minor strain of the Johanna virus. Everyone is sterile, and our generation is the last young generation.

What a way to start of your mornings huh? knowing that humanity is on the brink of death. Each cell contained 4 people, and in my cell, the laziest people slept because we had 15 minutes before we had to report to the meeting hall yet no one but me was awake. I raised my hands to my mouth making a megaphone out of my bare hands and I screamed, "WAKE UP EVERYONE, YALL GOING TO BE LATE".  Everyone awoke and gave me a mean eye.

"Okay okay were up geez", spoke the short black haired boy that was awakening from the top of my bunk. That boy was my friend, Kato. He was one of my only friends here.

"Jeez to think I moved here to be scolded by some older kid". Said Ben, a younger blond hair boy who had just arrived. Let me explain. After the war the Johanna virus spread like crazy, people who were not yet affected by the main strain Johanna virus was moved quickly into safe havens. Im located in a safe haven that was once a city. I was moved here as an infant. There are still those wandering the waste lands of the old world, every now and then we get a healthy young child that enters the safe haven, however they are separated from their parents, that's all I know. In the ruins of the old world a new world order was created called, the U. F. H., or United For Humanity. Under their rule a new world was set up and new government was created. Information of the past was mostly destroyed and under their rule, safe havens were set up all around the world for survivors. The safe haven's all around the world are governed the same way. The children are separated from their parents and raised by the safe havens.

The other boy wakes up silently as always, his name was John, he was quiet, mysterious. No one knew where he came from and he doesn't speak much about his parents. As for my parents, they both died when I was an infant, but my dad was a well respected scientist, and I was granted to be raised by the safe haven.  Our cell room was small, not much larger than the average hotel room. Nothing fancy here, a window, two bunk beds and two dressers.

"aren't you excited Jay? it's your big day". Kato spoke.

"I know" I said. Today was the day I graduate beginning school. When you turn 18 you leave school and go out into the real world and a university. There aren't many kids left in the world. I went and got ready. I put on a black shirt and some cargo shorts.

"we'll miss you", Kato said.

"Sure we will" retorted Ben.

"maybe" John said,
