I was terrified, money in hand, running as if my life depended on it. Because it did.

How did I get here, I wondered as I was looking past my shoulder from the alley I was hiding in. I was hiding from the guards of the North. I didn't belong here and they knew that, but I also didn't belong in the South. The South is for starting a family, and the North is where I can live every day as an adventure. The sooner I could get past these guards the sooner I could start my new life.

The guards looked like they were body builders while I looked disheveled, with my shaggy brown hair and baggy t-shirt.
I should've made a better plan, all the thoughts in my head were about how the guards would kill me if they found me. I couldn't let that happen I thought to myself as i tried to come up with a plan. Hmmmm. I looked past my shoulder again to see out of the alley. The guards were turned away, they were looking  through the street, trying to find me. They knew what I was wearing, but not what my face looked like, and that was how I was going to get past them.

I may not have had a proper plan when I got here, but I did have a rucksack. In my rucksack I had food, water and spare clothes. I took the clothes out of my bag, replacing them with the money from my hand. Backing away from the entrance to the alley, I started to change my clothes.  After I changed I had to decide what to do with my clothes, should I just leave them here or take them with me. I knew I would never be able to wear them again, for fear of being recognized, but I could use them as bandages if i ever got hurt. I decided to keep them, I could rip them for bandages later, right now I had to focus on getting out of here. I rushed to get everything in my bag and hurried to get out of the alley. In that moment I prayed that I would make it out alive.
