Amy Lauren Katsuhira-Claire was born in Tokyo, Japan, in a village where the Katsuhira clan was born for twelve generations. Her parents are Himiko Katsuhira and Matthew Claire. The couple and their child stayed for five months after Amy was born, until an unknown clan attack their village. Matthew tried to save his wife and their child, but only saved the child when Himiko sacrificed herself to defeat the unknown clan's leader in combat; the after result was that Himiko was found dead, three impaled holes in her chest, along with the rest of the Katsuhira clan.
3 years later, Matthew slowly shut himself from the world and his daughter. The moment he disappeared from Amy, Child Services informed Matthew's sister and one of Amy's few relatives Hilda Marie Claire, to become Amy's legal guardian from now on.
Before Amy moves to America to live a normal life with her aunt, Himiko's mother and Amy's grandmother Chiaki Katsuhira, gave her granddaughter a katana, previously owned by Himiko, and the Katsuhira family heirloom the Two Charmed Blades. Chiaki told Amy to swear not to tell her aunt what had happened 3 years ago and now, including the weapons, and to train herself privately until the unknown clan comes back and the Two Charmed Blades are ready to be wield against them.
As they arrived in America, ever since Amy was a transfer student, the other peers ignored her existence until she met April O'Neil, and they became close ever since. As promised from her grandmother, she trained hard with the actual help of martial arts books and an old book consisting ninja skills and use of weapons. For 13 years, she trained and fought regular enemies like the Purple Dragons, and saved the city every night in the shadows. Then she bumped into a teenage mutant ninja turtle named Leonardo Hamato when Amy defended a woman from getting robbed by the Purple Dragons.
Amy later becomes assistant teacher accepted by Splinter to help improve the skills of the four ninja turtles.
