Waking up

-Kate, wake up, you're going to be late for school!
Katleen pulled back her blankets. She sighed: she hated when people called her Kate, even though she knew it was supposed to be a sign of affection. She liked her name the way it was, and she felt a bit angry that her mother still called her by her surname as she told her millions of times she preferred to be called by her first name.
Katleen rubbed her eyes, yawned and slowly got out of her bed. She looked at the clock: 7:40 a.m. Good thing she actually lived near the school, just as she did in her dream.

The dream...

Katleen sat back on her bed, a blank expression on her face. This dream of her perfect life seemed so real, as if it was really hers. She couln't quite believe all of this was in her head.
She stared at the wall for about a minute before realizing she would, indeed, be late if she didn't hurry up. She headed to the bathroom to comb her hair quickly. She put on the first clothes she could get her hands on, grabbed a banana in the kitchen, took her backpack, and left for school.

Katleen was still thinking about her dream when she walked through the entrance of Los Angeles Sea Side High School. She knew she was a lucid person, and could easily determine whether she was dreaming or not. But not this time...  That night, for an unknown reason, she couldn't tell apart reality from fiction...
"-Hey, watch it!"
Everything went fast. Katleen  bumped into someone, and both of them had fallen to the ground.
"-what-oh, I'm so sorry. I wasn't paying attention."
She picked up her glasses, and looked up at the person she had bumped into. Suddenly, she felt her cheeks getting red as she realized that person was Ryan.
She smiled uncomfortably as he got up.
"What the heck?! Watch where you're going!" He said in an annoyed tone, walking away.
Ryan. Mister popular. He was one of the most handsome guys of the school. In the dream, they were supposed to be dating, but in real life, they had never really talked, well, before now. A wave of sadness hit her. Of course, Ryan would never notice a girl like her. She felt stupid for ever imagining themselves dating.
When Katleen finally stood up, she walked straight into the building. She didn't want to see if people were laughing at her. She decided to go to the toilets before heading to class to figure everything out. When she entered, and saw her reflection in the mirror, her expression changed from sadness to horror. She had a pimple on her right cheek, her hair was messy as hell, and her clothes... She was wearing a white top with bunnies on it- her old pajama top- and a pair of jeans- it was about 30 degrees celcius, and it was only 8 a.m.- She was wearing old tennis shoes with a large hole on each of them. She couldn't quite believe how bad she looked today. If only she'd heard her alarm clock when it rang... At least, she wouldn't have looked like a fool in front of Ryan. This was their first ever real talk, and she looked like a goof. She sighed, and left for her first class of the day.
Little did she know who was watching her behind the door.
