My barricades are up forever and a day,
You shall not know my soul, for I will only say,
‘I shall never drop the gate’ I exclaim with a sigh,
While you’re your arrogant expression utters ‘goodbye’.
My impenetrable soul castle, sturdy and old,
It slowly crumbles, its destiny foretold,
‘Nothing lasts forever, not even a lie,
Give up your walls, your end is nigh’.
I shall never retreat, my line is drawn,
Yet my heart yearns, a love is born,
As you walk away, I hold emotion inside,
Though, my heart sings for you and that is why I hide,
For to gaze upon your face brings so much pain,
Sadness, that I could not utter your name,
And while you walk, I hold my soul castle,
Never to be joined, alone, no hassle.
So why does my heart ache with the weight of mistake,
As I gaze across my elegant soul lake?
Why does it burn, why does it cry,
Because I never got to say goodbye?
If so, I shall wait forever,
For those words that I long to utter,
And when they come, strong and true,
Only poets will know the you I knew.
