The days flew by quickly and before we knew it, it was nearly time for Ginny to return to school. Fred and Georg had decided that they would accompany Mr. and Mrs. Weasley to King’s Cross Station, but they would go to Diagon Alley from there to return to the shop. I had spent most of my time sitting in the garden and thinking back on a time where I wasn’t sitting on the edge of a war. I was often joined by Ginny, who seemed to be just as worried as I was about what might happen, but I enjoyed her company. We were very similar; we both had family members that we cared for and we’re afraid to lose, we were both very young and our lives had been greatly affected by terrible events, and we both had one person that we would do absolutely anything to protect, even if it meant risking our own lives.
One day near the middle of August, she admitted something that I did not expect. “I know how you feel about George; I know that you’re in love with him,” she whispered, not daring to look at me. I felt my jaw drop as I stared at her in shock, but I quickly brought it back up.
“W-what are you talking about? Me in love with George? That’s absolutely preposterous. He’s like a brother to me!” I exclaimed, hoping that the blush that was slowly spreading across my face wasn’t all that noticeable.
“You can’t lie to me; I see the way you look at him; I notice that whenever he enters a room, a smile spreads across your face; I’ve noticed the blush that takes over your face whenever his hand accidently brushes against yours. You can deny it all you want, but you can’t lie to me Delly. If you don’t love him, why would you react the way you did after his ear got cursed off?” I just stared at her, not knowing what to say. I opened my mouth a few times, but quickly shut it again, realizing that the words that were about to come out were absolutely stupid. “You could always tell him how you feel. In fact, that would probably be best; you never know what’s going to happen and one of these days, you might not have each other anymore.” She stood up immediately and walked back in to the house. I continued to sit there, dumbstruck at what she had said.
“I don’t care that you just turned sixteen the other day, I’m going to kill you Ginevra!” I called after her. I jumped up from my position on the steps and started walking out towards the orchard, where I knew I would be able to get complete privacy. As I was reaching the edge of the trees, I heard the kitchen door open and footsteps run swiftly down the stairs. I continued walking, allowing myself to be swallowed into the trees, but the footsteps continued to run across the garden towards me.
“Delly, I know you’re out here; I saw you walking,” a voice called to me, and I instantly recognized it as one of the twins. I stopped in my tracks, hoping that it wasn’t George and hoping that he hadn’t overheard what Ginny had said to me. “There you are,” a grinning Fred said, a devious glint in his eyes. “You and Ginny have interesting conversations, eh?” My stomach dropped; Fred had overheard us and now he knew.
“What do you want?” I asked, already aware of how he was going to use his newfound knowledge. Being friends with the twins for eight years had given me a great insight in to how they work.
“What makes you think I want anything for this information?” he asked, trying to be serious.
“Cut the shit Fred, I know you to well,” I said firmly.
“Alright then, move in with us. When we go back to Diagon Alley, go with us,” he said, and I stared at him in shock.
“That’s it? You’re not going to try and humiliate me?”
