Patton and Logan Sanders had been married for two years now and had decided that they were finally ready for a child. They looked into a couple foster cares and adoption centers and decided to check out one nearby. It was finally the day they were going to visit and Logan's anxiety was through the roof while Patton was simply excited to meet more kiddos. Logan nervously straightened his already perfectly symmetrical tie, squeezing Patton's hand as they opened the door to the foster home. Logan immediately untangled his hand from Patton's to shield his ears. It was so unbelievably loud! There were kids laughing and screaming and talking everywhere. Patton immediately covered his ears as well and looked around for the woman he had met with before. He finally saw the plump, short woman walking towards them and gave her a wide smile. "Well hello Ms. Dylan! How are you today?", Patton asked the woman in front of them politely. "Doing just fine Patton! Doing justtt fine!" She replied as she led them to a long hallway. "The young man I would like for you to meet today is Mr. Virgil Foster. He's only 9 and has been here since he was 2 years old. He's quite a sweet young man and I think he's just perfect for you!" She explained, finally coming to a stop at a dark purple door with rain clouds on them. Finally away from the horrible noise, Logan detached his hands from his ears and wiped his sweaty palms on his newly dry-cleaned trousers. "You ready Pat?" Logan managed to croak out, as he had been far too nervous to talk before. "Ready as I'll ever be!", chirped Patton, beginning to knock softly on purple door. Logan heard a bland 'come in' and before he knew what had even happened, he and Patton were inside the room. "Hiya Kiddo!" Patton exclaimed happily, sitting on a old computer chair smiling lightly at the darkly clothed figure on the bed. "Hi..." the figure mumbled out quietly. Soon, Logan felt a jab in his ribs and looked down to see Patton's elbow indeed jabbing him. Logan raised an eyebrow at his husband, but Patton had a look that said "Say something, silly!" So Logan quietly sighed and uttered a simple "Salutations." The little boy looked up and saw the formally clothed man looking as nervous as he was. This gave Virgil a sense of not being alone, not being the only one who got extreme anxiety, which made him loosen up a bit. He sat up straighter and said quietly, but with more confidence then the last time, "I'm Virgil"
"Nice to meet you Virgil. I'm Logan and this is my husband Patton.", Logan said, gaining a some confidence and gesturing towards Pat. Patton waved at the child and smiled happily. "Hi Virgil! We've been looking for a child for some time and we think your the right one!" Patton said softly, but just as happily. Virgil looked at him, his eyes wide with hope. Then suddenly, he looked away. "You don't want me. I'll only cause you trouble. No one wants me." He said this with so much belief in his words, it broke Logan's heart. Patton opened his mouth to speak, but Logan beat him to it. "No." Logan said firmly. This made Virgil look up. "No matter what you think, you are none of those things. I thought that of myself before.I've been in a place where I truly believed that I'm useless. I believed that I was worth nothing and I thought very self-deprecating thoughts. There was a time when I was very suicidal. And then I found light. And this light's name was Patton." He paused to squeeze Patton's hand slightly. "Patton showed me how much I'm worth. He made me feel like I was everything. He gave me hope. I no longer felt worthless. We gave each other happiness. You need to find that light. And me and Patton think we could be that light for you.", Logan finished his speech and looked up. He then saw the little kid jump off his bed and run to hug Logan. And ever since that moment, Logan and Patton both knew they had found their child. They knew that legally, he technically wasn't theirs (yet). But they knew that their bond was past adoption papers. They knew.
