I stiffen defensively, as the scent hits me again. The blood is still fresh, the scent is still near. It smells familiar, but tinged with something new, something strange. The hair on the back of my neck stands on end, as I take on the face of the stranger. A woman I recognize. She works in the convenience store down the road. How did she wind up here? Who killed her? That's when I realize with a start who the vampire is. I pull my phone out of my pocket, not even moving from the spot I'm standing. I dial Emmett's number, never taking my eyes off the dead girl.

            "Hey babe, did everything go okay at the house?" Emmett asks me, as he answers the phone. I can tell he's chewing something, but my body seems to be moving in slow motion.

            "He's... He's here Emmett. I need you" I drop the phone, as the sound of footsteps sound behind me. Then the door swings open. I stand there, unable to turn around, unable to react. I'm rooted with fear.

            "I've been looking for you" he says, lifting his arm, so the light falls on the sharpened stake in his hand. I take a deep breath, taking a small step back... That's when he lunges at me, the stake aiming right for my chest...
