Well, not quite the beginning for our protagonist, a female utahraptor. For simplicity's sake, we will call her Trout.
Trout was born in a clutch of eggs along with her brothers and sisters. She was one of the first to crack the shell and emerge into a cruel world, covered in slime and fear. Her parents didn't care for her for long and soon the little one found herself jumping and dodging their annoyed bites more and more often, until she was eventually chased out of her birthplace and forced to live her life alone on a massive, threathening island.
Speaking of that, the island had many ponds and lakes scattered across it, divided by mountains and forests. Those water sources were the most popular among dinosaurs, both carnivores and herbivores alike. Food and water could be found there, yet all types of killers lurked in the forest-borders, ready to strike anyone lowering their head to have a drink. The landscape was dull, most of it painted with an endless abyss of trees and bushes, providing plenty of foliage for critters and smaller dinosaurs. The rare parts not surrounded by woods were usually hills and enormous mountains, capturing sound and forming massive howls during storms.
Speaking of storms, those were frequent. It wasn't uncommon to sit in the roaring wind and be soaked with rain a few times a week. The animals had adapted to it. In a world like that, you are either forced to adapt or die. So was the case with Trout, our utahraptor.
The juvenile, just chased across a field from her nest, stumbled into the first bush she found to rest her weak legs. She was exhausted from escaping her parents, who would've nabbed her up as an easy meal, should've she been found. Thoughts of fear and terror plagued her mind, something she had only experienced before when her mother forced to lay her against the ground, hiding from the nose of a giganotosaurus. In her fright, Trout dragged herself up and continued on her journey towards the unknown.
Now is the beginning for her, a juvenile raptor barely old enough to survive. Predators lurked in every corner, ready to snap her fragile body up the ground if she wouldn't be careful enough. It was a dangerous world, she knew.
She soon found herself on a field, barely able to see above the tall grass. The smell of water gushed into her nostrils and the utahraptor inhaled. Happy to see a small pond ahead, Trout started descending downhill towards the water source, her dry throat motivating her to keep moving.
Her path was casted by the dim light of the sunset, lightening the road towards the glistening water. Creatures were chirping in the bushes the young utahraptor passed by and the grass no longer crunched under her claws. For the first time in a while, Trout felt genuine happiness, pushing her thirst, hunger and fear towards the back of her mind.
Her whole body focused on the approaching water, she couldn't help but forget about staying alert about her surroundings. Her life almost ended there and then, should've the raptor not leaped towards her side to avoid the crushing foot of a tyrannosaurus rex.
That's right, a couple of two rexes passing by went unnoticed for her. Trout rushed into the shrubbery, eyeing the two gigantic dinosaurs. She crouched down, desperate to go unnoticed, yet the little scrambling of her legs didn't go unseen by the male tyrannosaurus. He turned and lowered his head, letting out a small growl and continued on his way, not bothering to sacrifice his energy for such a small snack. The two rexes headed towards the mountains and Trout continued to scan their shrinking figures with her keen eyes.
This was one of the first and definitely not last dangerous encounters our Utahraptor had to endure, if not to include her maddened parents, who were now long forgotten by her. A whole new world waited ahead, and who knows what it had in store for her next?
