Marissa was panicking in the passenger seat of Tyler's car. Alex's words had her terrified, and she ended up spilling everything about their relationship. He just stayed silent and listened, reassuring her that it would be fine.
"Oh my god, Ty, what if he hates me??" Marissa exclaimed, still terrified.
"Calm down, May. You'll be fine." Tyler reached over, taking her smaller hand in his. Marissa's face flushed, but she wasn't sure why. It's not like she had a crush on him or anything! She didn't, right?
"oh no..." She accidentally whispered out loud, her free hand flying to cover her mouth.
"What? What's wrong? Do you feel sick, do I need to pull over?" Tyler was worried, to say the least. She brushed him off, squeezing his hand. Marissa tried to stop her shaking hand, but Tyler wasn't fooled. Arriving outside of Monet's, Tyler pulled her in for a hug. Marissa felt calmer, enveloped in her best friend's arms. She pulled away, landing a soft kiss on his cheek and exiting the car. The girl left him flustered, and he called a quick goodbye in her direction. She waved, pulling the door of the cafe open.
"Hey, Rissa," Alex spoke as she sat down. "Um... how are you?"
"Good, good... So, why am I here?"
"Oh... You know I love you, right?" Alex waited for a response, which came in the form of a shaky nod. "Good. I really do, but I feel like this isn't working."
"Oh, me too! I think we're too good of friends, really."
"Really? Good! So, friends?"
"Yeah, friends."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Well, that's not exactly how it went down, but that's what she told Tyler. Said boy was not convinced, and continued to question Marissa.
"Are you sure you're okay?"
"Yes, Tyler!"
"Okay... You're sure?"
"Yes." Marissa was breaking, and Tyler could tell.
"You sure?"
"no." A tear fell down Marissa's face, and Tyler leaned forward to wipe it away. He wrapped his slender arms around her small frame, allowing Marissa to bury her face in the crook of his neck. The smaller girl sobbed quietly, clinging to her best friend like a life source. Tyler muttered soft words into her ears, running a hand down her arms. After the crying ceased, it took Tyler a few minutes to realize that she had fallen asleep. Marissa mumbled a quiet 'Justy' and turned out of Tyler's arms.
