BOOK ONE:

BITTER ROSES

/first in the Kurt&Rose 'Verse/

Kurtis is a nerd that no one likes, but when he meets the beautiful Rose, he finds a confidence he never knew in him finally come out and he can't help but try and date her, whether or not she wants to at first.

He'll show her that he's an actual nice guy and not the nerd everyone thinks he is by breaking out of his shy shell.

But with meddling moms, jealous cousins, conniving best friends and over-protective dads, will Kurtis be able to woo the socks off of Rose and show that a major nerd like him can get the gorgeous girl?

Since the birthday party incident, Kurtis saw Rose everywhere. No, not in a weird she's-everywhere-I-look sort of way, more of a my-gosh-how-come-I-never-noticed-her-around sort of way. He never noticed that she was around school so much, around him so much. But when he would look for her silently, for no reason whatsoever, he'd see her, sometimes standing, sometimes talking, sometimes sitting, sometimes walking, and sometimes - though this was rare - laughing.

Her head would be thrown back, her long mane of hair tumbling even more down her shoulders, shoulders shaking. There would be a huge smile on her face when she'd finally stop, her eyes twinkling. Perhaps it was just the light above, or perhaps it was just her own beauty, Kurtis probably would never know. But he did know one thing: he was stricken with her, and he had to talk to her again. Okay, so, perhaps that was actually two things, but whatever. They were tied together, so just go with the flow, okay?

Kurtis really liked her, and he wanted to ask her out and hold hands and be all coupley and junk, but he had to no idea as to how to ask her - well, more like how to gather up all the guts he had and ask her. Just thinking about it made him sweat excessively and clutch onto his insulin for dear life, knuckles whitening quickly. His creamy white skin would turn into paste and suddenly his vision would blur from the edges, white dots swirling about. No, he wasn't lying - it was the truth. He actually left that sick to ask her. Typical nerd fashion, you could say.

Although, for some weird reason, he suddenly had a boost of energy out of nowhere. Something told him to march right up to her, ask her out, watch as she said yes and take her out on a date that would blow her mind, not his.

And so, when she was sitting in the cafeteria, talking with her friends, Kurtis pulled the dumbest nerd move and approached her then, shaking and stuttering his butt off, nervous and scared of what she might say and if he'd be made fun of again.

"H-Hey Rose." He stuttered, giving her a shaky smile even though her back was to him. She flipped her head immediately towards him, her long hair whiping him in the face, and he closed his eyes and sniffed the fruity fragrance in. It smelled like apples and cinnamon, and that made a goofy smile appear on his face.

There was silence, except for the few snickers that come out of her friends' mouths.

"Well? What is it? Uh...Kurt, right?" Ohmygoshsherememberedmyname! That thought came out in a jumble, but he didn't care. All he knew was that she remembered his name! But that was when he realized that he must like a massive loser-dork, his eyes closed and a smile on his face, so he jerked out of his stance and drunk-like thoughts, and laid his eyes on her again. She looked even more beautiful than she did at the party; not much make-up adorned her face, showing her natural beauty. Now, don't get him wrong, she looked beautiful with make-up on as well, but the natural look suited her more. She was wearing skin-tight dark blue jeans along with a short, lacey top which was held up only by two thick straps that criss-crossed in the front and back. Silver heels adorned her feet.
