Justin's POV

"Daddy? Mommy?" I woke up to Emory's cute little voice ringing into my ear, "What is it, cutie?" I inquired, I had to push my eyes open this early in the morning, "I feel sick, daddy," she whimpered. I lifted her into our bed so that she could cuddle between Selena and me. This has been going on for about a week now. She's been sick non-stop, and it's probably time to take her to the doctors. "Mommy?" she whispered as she dug her head into Selena's chest. Selena pulled her closer and kissed the top of her head. "Hmm?" she breathed, I crawled in further under the covers to my two queens. "We'll have to get up soon, babe," I mumbled into Selena's forehead before leaving a kiss there. "and we should probably take her to the ER, she feels like she's running a fever." I grinned and pulled them into a tight hug. "Yeah, just two more minutes," Selena muttered and left a wet kiss right below my eye. It took everything in me to get out from under my covers and into the cold morning atmosphere. I put on my sweats and made my way into the kitchen. I took out a pan and decided to make some banana pancakes.

Just as I finished setting the table for my wonderful family of three, Selena walked in with Em cuddled in her arms. She sat her down on a chair and sat down herself. I distributed the pancakes onto the three plates. We sat down and ate as a family together. "Aren't you going to eat, sweetie?" Selena trembled, she stroked Em's hair and smiled at me. I could tell her heart wasn't in her smile. She was worried, and I must admit I was getting worried too. Em hasn't been herself at all. "I wanna throw up, mama..." I hurried over to pick her up and I brought her to the couch. She laid with her head across my lap, I hate seeing her like this. I miss her cute, sassy self that never failed to make us laugh. Selena came running in with a bucket, placed it on the floor next to Em. She sat down next to me and put down her head on my shoulder. "We need to take her to the doctors." She whispered into my ear. I nodded as my way of accepting the reality of things. Selena and I switched places so that I could get dressed to bring Em to the doctors.

"It's time to go, baby girl..." I mumbled, I scooped her little body into my arms and watched her sweet, precious face leaning into my chest. I put her into her car seat and buckled her in. Just then Selena walked out the front door, locked it and made her way towards me. I grabbed her waist and pulled her close. Her breathe crossed my lips. "It will all be okay, okay?" I smiled and planted a passionate kiss on her lips, it was enough to get a half-smile flickering across her face. I assisted her into the car and walked across to the driver's seat. Emory was so exhausted, she slept the entire ride there. I must have checked on her a million times in the rearview mirror. Selena and I made small talk too, but I don't think there was ever a moment that our minds wandered far from thinking of Emory. I pulled into the parking lot, we both exhaled and sat there for just a second. Em was still resting her eyes. We got out of the car together. I went over to pick Em up, and she rested peacefully in my arms. I grabbed Selena with my free hand and I gave her a reassuring squeeze, letting her know we could handle this whatever it was.

At all of Em's physicals, she had been afraid of the blood pressure cuff and getting her temperature taken. This time though she was a perfect angel. The doctor suddenly broke into speech. "Is there... Have you ever had anyone look at her lymph nodes?" she questioned. "Um..." I hesitated, "not to our recollection..." Selena finished. "Okay, that is okay." She didn't hide her nervousness, which really did not calm me down at all. Selena was twitching her leg, she was distraught as well. I placed my hand on her thigh to try and calm her. She laid her hand on mine and stroked it with her thumb never letting her eyes leave Em, who was sitting next to the doctor examining her. "Why?" Selena raised her voice, just slightly. I squeezed her thigh, lightly. She instantly got less tense. "Oh! They appear to be tremendously swollen. It could be just something she caught, but it could be more." She exhaled, and made her way across the room, headed for the door. "I will be right back, okay." She continued, "Okay." I answered although she was long gone.
