Camila's POV

I gazed at the school building looming in front of me. New school, new start.

Scratch that. New COUNTRY.

My family and I just immigrated from Cuba to the US at the beginning of summer. I had spent 3 months learning English, and I was still a little bit shaky. And if things couldn't get any worse, my dad had a job at the school. As JANITOR. If anyone found out, I'd be the laughingstock of the 12th grade.

I was extremely nervous about my last year of high school. I had one year to prove I could pass, and then off to college. The thing was, I wasn't even sure I wanted to go to college. What I really wanted was to pursue a career in singing. But I've never sang in front of anyone...

'Woah, Camila. Get a grip. How much time have you spent standing here? You don't want to be late!"

I rushed into the school.

Lauren's POV

"So, how do I look?" I twirled around for my best friends Ariana and Normani.

"Lauren, you look stunning," Ariana smiled.

"Just like you always do." Normani agreed, also smiling.

"Aw thanks guys. Same to both of you."

It may seem like they're sucking up to me, but our friendship is genuine. I've been friends with them ever since 7th grade. We ruled the school and all planned to go to the same college.

"Look out, loser alert by the front office," Ariana informed us. We all turned to look.

Sure enough, there was a girl with long brown locks stumbling over her own feet, looking lost and confused. She locked eyes with us.

"Guys, she's coming this way," Normani noted.

"Don't worry, I've got a plan. Act nice and friendly."

"What?" asked Ariana. "But-"

"Just do it!" I whispered as the girl got closer. I faked a smile.

"Hi! Are you new here?" Normani piped up.

"Uh... Yeah," the girl answered shyly. "I'm... Camila." I wanted to respond with, "Did I ask?" but I bit it back. I glanced at Ariana. I could tell she thought the same.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Normani, and these are my friends Lauren and Ariana." Dang. Normani was good at this.

"Hi!" I chimed in. "Do you need any help?"

"Oh my gosh yes! Do you know where locker 441 is?"

My smile grew wider. "Yeah! The 400s are in that direction." I pointed to the left. The 400s were really to the right. Normani shot me a confused look. Ariana just grinned, slowly realizing the plan

Camila beamed. I almost felt bad. Almost.

"Thankyouthankyouthankyou!" She began running in that direction. And right at that moment, Ariana stuck out her foot to trip her.

Good ol' Ariana. She was a master at this.

Camila went down. Her books flew in every direction. I laughed and laughed and laughed.

"Oops. I'm so sorry." Ariana taunted, tossing her hair. We swiftly turned around and started walking away.
