My hair had been bleached and my makeup had been done. I wore a tight black dress and black thigh high boots. I was a completely different woman, I guess that was the point.
I stepped out of the hotel and took Alejandro's hand to step into the BMW.
He got in the drivers seat and put on sunglasses. His hair had been bleached too, wigs made things harder, quote Marco.
I had to admit, Alejandro looked sexy as a blonde. He had caught me looking and flashed a smile, I turned away in embarrassment.
We were driving to Mexico City, and this would test my loyalty to Marco. He had taught me everything about the Snakes and about my fake boyfriend, José.
"I'm not supposed to talk to you, but I can't help myself." Alejandro spoke.
"Really?" I asked, trying to phase in Maria. I needed to act sassy, and like I wasn't going to take any shit.
"Yeah. I could get killed for saying this but...I hate that you're apart of El Jefe's little scheme." He said.
"Trust me, me too." I took red lipstick from my clutch and applied it with a compact mirror. I could see Alejandro looking at me out of the corner of my eye. Shit. Was he falling for me? I couldn't have that happen, Marco would kill him in an instant.
We pulled up to small barber shop, in the basement was where the conference would be. I stepped out of the car and two body guards from around the corner joined me.
I spoke to Alejandro. "Stop flirting with me. I have one job to do and I can't let you get in to way of it." And I closed the car door. I knew that had hurt him, but I did what was best.
We walked into the barbershop and all the men eyes me hungrily. I knocked on the door in the back and recited the password.
"Las serpientes nunca retroceder."
The door opened and I walked in the musty and humid room. I stepped down the stairs and all eyes were on me again.
"¿Quien eres?" A voice asked.
"Soy Maria Venis." I said and walked to an empty seat at the table they were sitting.
"Ven aquí." The voice spoke again. I walked to it and in the dark, emerged the boss, Derek Hidalgo. My father. He looked just like me, hopefully he didn't recognize me.
"Where's José?" He asked me.
"José has gotten himself in trouble with Los Rojos. I'm here in his place," I recited from what Marco made up for me. Derek looked at me for a moment then gestured me to sit. And I did. I sat beside a pervy guy, looking at my tits, and a young guy with curly brown hair and dark eyes. He looked bored.
"Okay," Derek spoke. "Everyone is accounted for. Now," he paced around the room. "We need to discuss what we're going to do with the Rosa mafia."
When Derek passed a person, they automatically sat up straight. He was a feared man.
"Our spies have found out Marco's wife's daughter has recently been brought to Mexico from Canada." I stiffened. We were being watched. It was in due time that I would be caught. I needed to stay under raps.
"Now, we know Marco is a soulless man and he wouldn't care who dies in his family. But I have an idea." He paused. "We kill the daughter."
My blood ran cold. I needed to keep it together, or else I would really die now.
"If we kill her, Marco's wife will convince him to surrender his gang to us." Derek said proudly.
What an idiot. He obviously doesn't know Marco. Marco would never succumb to another gang, he would kill himself before that happens.
"Maria," Derek said. I jumped noticeably, but managed to keep it together to look him in the eye.
"How about you become our little spy and intrude on Marco to get as much information as you can on his little girl?" He asked, snaking down to my seat. I shivered.
"I have a lot on my plate right now." I quivered. Derek nodded.
"You afraid of Marco?" He asked.
"Hell no." I quickly defended myself then regretted it.
"Then do this for me. Prove you can replace José." Derek asked.
This was my father. My ACTUAL father. Marco wasn't. So what was I doing on his team?
"You know what?" I stood up. "I'll do it."
