Prologue

Isabella Bates

I remember when they announced World War II is officially over. The loud and clear voice of the man announcing through the radio still rings in my ear.

I remember everyone celebrating, all the people happy.

I remember running straight home when I heard the news, not caring about it being unladylike then.

I remember bursting through the door of our house, my eyes meeting the joyous gaze of my mother and younger sister.

I remember how excited we all were.

Dad was finally coming home! After Four years of not hearing from him, he was coming back!

You could see tears of joy running down mother's face. She was to finally be reunited with her husband, her true love.

Lucy was bouncing on her toes with excitement. She would finally get to see her father for the very first time; the father she had heard so much about.

I was finally going to see my father again!

Or so we thought.
