Chapter Two

When I looked at Alex in front of me she wasn't the same woman I saw earlier today. The one I saw earlier was happy with her eyes twinkling and a spring in her step, but now her shoulders were slumped and a little mascara was running down her face so she had clearly been crying.

"Alex what happened what's wrong?" She lifted her eyes to look at me and before she even said a word the tears were back. I sighed softly, pulled her into my arms, and hugged her close. We didn't say anything for a moment, I just held her as she cried into my chest. I have seen Alex cry before, but this was entirely different, and it was heart wrenching to see her like this. Finally I heard her cries begin to soften and she wasn't shaking as much as she was in my arms before.

"Justin broke up with me tonight."

I sighed and looked at her, "Alex I'm sorry, he's a jerk for doing that to you. Did he say why?"

"He said he met some new girl at work and apparently they have been flirting, so he said he wanted something new."

I felt my hands clench into fists at my sides because he's an asshole for doing that to her. No one deserves that, but especially not Alex. She jumps at the opportunity to help anyone she can, and she is always there when you need her. She has a heart of gold, and no one should break that. I guess she noticed my anger rising, because she put her hands over mine and looked into my eyes.

"Easy Eric it's okay shh, calm down."

Her voice was enough to help me relax, after all going over and beating up her ex boyfriend wasn't going to do anything. I looked into her eyes and nodded my head. "I was going to watch the game, do you want to come in and watch with me?"

"Sure, that sounds really nice."

I held the door open for her and followed her inside. She sat down on the couch and I went into the kitchen to grab us a couple beers. "Did you have anything to eat?"

"Yeah, he bought me dinner and then he told me he wanted to break up."

"I'm sorry Alex that's messed up, you deserve better than that."

"Thanks Eric I appreciate it."

I smiled at her and sat down next to her. We watched the game and talked through a good majority of it. I saw her smile some and it made things feel better. I was invested in the game during the fourth quarter as the score was close, because at the end of the game I looked over and found Alex asleep. I didn't have the heart to wake her so I went and grabbed a blanket for her. I laid her back on the couch gently, covered her up with the blanket, and then shut the light off so that she could get some rest.

The Next Morning: Alex's Point of View

I woke up from the sunlight peering in from the blinds and I noticed those weren't my blinds. I looked around and noticed I was at Eric's, I must've fallen asleep during the game last night. I was wrapped up in a blanket and I couldn't help but smile, he really is the best. I stood from the couch and stretched out my body from sleeping on the couch all night. That's when I smelled it, mmm bacon. I followed the smell where I found Eric making breakfast.

"Morning sleepy head."

"Morning Eric, sorry I fell asleep last night."

"Don't worry about it, I didn't want to wake you last night, you looked to be in a pretty good sleep."

"Yeah, I was just so upset after last night I just wanted the day to be over."

"I know, but you're better off without him. If he can't see how great you are he doesn't deserve you."

I found myself smiling at that. "Thanks Eric."

"Anytime, ready for some breakfast?"

"Yes absolutely, it smells amazing."

"Well good, thought pancakes might ease the pain."

"Pancakes do help make things better." I laughed, taking a couple and putting them on my plate.

"That's what I like to hear."

We ate breakfast, mostly in silence, but not an awkward type of silence, it was more of a relaxing type of silence. It was a time where I could think, and while I kept thinking about Justin, and everything he had done to me in the last 24 hours, I realized that everything was going to be okay. I have people around me that do truly care about me, and one of them was sitting across the table from me. Things were going to be okay.
