"And now for this years location!" My mom began her speech, my brother and I leaned forward in anticipation.
"We got a.. drum roll please" my father said, holding up airplane tickets.
I started hitting the table next to me, creating a drum like noise. This year was definitely going to be the best year.
"California!" My mom yelled while handing us the tickets.
"California? But uh, last year we went to Italy" my brother ruffled his brows together.
"Shut up, be grateful we're even going somewhere." I said while nudging him, even though I was putting on this act, I couldn't help but think 'why California?' We always go somewhere special, California is a good vacation spot, but after going to Europe for the past couple years, it wasn't spectacular.
"I told you we should have gone to Greece." My dad tried to whisper to my mom, my mom rolled her eyes and sat down.
"I want to go because, as you know, my mother passed away. We inherited her money and her house. She lived in a beach house so why not go vacation there before I sell it." With that she got up and walked away, my father gave us a stern look and walked away.
"Well at least we get to leave this apartment for a little bit." He said while shrugging.
Money was never an issue for my family, my parents both inherited money from their parents. They're both teachers, which is how they're able to go on vacation for summer too. My brother and I may not be spoiled, but our life wasn't exactly difficult.
I got up and walked to my room, throwing myself onto my bed knowing I was too lazy to start packing. My phone seemed like the only thing that would make the time pass. 'Text message, Snapchat, snapchat, new follower on instagram.' Nothing that truly interested me, I decided to just go watch a new movie on Netflix.
Within minutes I could already feel myself drifting off. My eyes wouldn't stay open, I eventually just let my eyes close and let myself drift off.

"Cam! Have you started packing?" My mother was shaking my shoulder, trying to wake me up and peacefully as she could muster.
"If I said yes I'd be lying" I say sitting up, she sat down at my desk and started to grab all of my sunglasses.
"Well we plan on leaving earlier this year, tomorrow morning to be exact" she stood up and grabbed my suitcases.
"Thanks for telling me before. How am I supposed to pack everything before then?" I quickly run over to my closet and throw as much clothes as I can grab onto my bed.
"Okay, okay. I might have left one part out. You and Jett are leaving tomorrow morning. Your father and I will be leaving the day after. We're staying behind to make sure we pack up everything you guys left."
"So you want us to go there, and find a house we've never been to. Then stay there. All alone?" She nodded her head and started to help fold my clothes.
"I can trust you guys. It's not like you can throw a party" I laughed at that, she wasn't wrong.
After a couple minutes my mom left me to pack on my own. Is it only me that realizes how little I owned for a nice warm vacation, I no longer fit into the clothes I used to wear.
Luckily this year I got a job and saved, looked like the first thing on my list for Cali is a nice shopping trip.
"Cam! Did you hear the news?" My brother said sprinting into my room.
"Jett! Did you hear of knocking? What if I was in here changing?" He cringed at the idea.
"Shut up. Anyways, we get to go without parents!" He said pumping his fists into the air.
"Yes because we can do so much." I say with sarcasm dripping from my mouth.
"You never know, there could be a bonfire we could crash on the beach. Or we could go out and have our own and hope some people show up. Or we could go to the mall and introduce ourselves to some people and see if anything is going on." He pushed his shaggy black hair out of his face.
My brother mainly resembled my dad, my father was from Qatar. My brother had his black hair and tan skin. My mother, on the other hand, was from France, I showed a little more of her. We were a very diverse family. My mother and father could both speak English, French, and Arabic. Me and my brother knew all three but mainly knew English.
"Aibnatu, please set your alarm for 6 AM tomorrow morning." My father said walking past my room.
"Nem ya 'abi" my favorite thing about knowing all of these languages with my family is getting to use them with my family.
As I finished packing I couldn't help but think about this summer, I get to start it off all on my own. Will it turn out how I want it to?
