marley quinn has not set foot in los angeles in a month. she's lived off of fast food and motel rooms for the past few weeks and struggled to forget about what had happened back at home. she had gone to salt lake city, utah and balled her eyes out in one of the gas station bathrooms before finding a room to stay in.

she had 34 voicemails, over 100 missed calls and 400+ text messages. lee calls at least twice a day.

"marley," elle whispered into her voicemail box. "i'm in lee's bathroom and it's terrible. mar he's going crazy. he thinks it's his fault. he says the worst part is he doesn't know what he did. mars everyone misses. heck even my little brother was asking me about you the other day. please come home."

"marley nicole quinn," lee sighed, his voice breaking. "you better come home as soon as you get this. i-i don't know what to do. i don't know what i did. i don't know where you went. i don't know how to fix this. i don't know how to fall out of love with you. come home mars. please."

marleys heart had began to mend after that last voicemail from lee. she had hope that he loved her, heck he even said he did. now all she had to do was show up and hope that she hasn't missed her chance. if she had, well then, she would have to come to terms with it. she couldn't live without him, even if he wasn't her partner. she had to be in his life. she had to be with him.

so she went home.

marley ran up the steps with a heavy heart and a messed up stomach. she was so nervous. what if she had shown up and he rejected her? thoughts raced through her mind fast enough to make her dizzy.

she burst through the door and smiled when she saw him in his desk chair. what she didn't like though was how he was hunched over his computer screen, a blurry image of a girl in her underwear on his screen. it was rachel. the girl from the booth.

"wow," marley stuttered. "you are really having a hard time falling out of love with me huh?"

lee jumped out of the chair, slamming the computer screen shut. he looked at the girl in disbelief. her eyes were sunken and full of pain. her hair was in a knotty bun and she even looked skinnier. she didn't look like marley. his marley.

"mars," he whispered, reaching up to touch her cheek.

she flinched when his fingers brushed against her skin and avoided looking in his eyes. "don't call me that."

"mars," lee whispered again. "what did i do?"

"what did you do?" she screamed, her voice trembling with heartbreak. "you broke my heart. you made me believe that we had a chance at being something and then you moved on."

"marley no," he grabbed her hand. "i-i never wanted to-"

"so what were you doing with her?"

no answer.

"huh?"

"i was trying to get over you!" he screamed. "i was head over heels for you and nothing was happening. i decided that i couldn't live like that anymore and decided to move on."

"well lee i've been here this whole time - hell i've slept with you, kissed you, taken care of you, hugged you when you were sad." tears flew down her cheeks. "i've done everything for you. i've tried my hardest to be the perfect person for you and you look for someone else."

"marley-"

"no lee, don't," she whispered. "don't try to sav-"

lee flynn had the nerve to kiss her. he grabbed her by the waist pulled her on top of him and kissed her. she sobbed harder as he kissed her knowing that this could possibly be the last time she was in his embrace.

she pulled away. "and what now? are you gonna leave me for rachel again?"

"no," lee said. "never again. she was a rebound in a sense."

"lee," she whispered, brushing his hair from his face. "i cant forgive you completely. you hurt me so so bad. but i'll try."

lee nodded quickly. he hugged her tightly and rested his chin upon her head. he rubbed her back and whispered soothing words into her ear as she cried. she didn't know why she was crying. everything was better in a way. but she was still upset. so she cried.

and she cried. and she even was able to make lee cry.
