Mal, Jayne, and Zoë decided to go out on a mission today. I didn't ask what kind. I didn't even want to know what kind. It normally ends with us having to leave abruptly. They had been gone for a little over two hours when it started. "Get ready to go!" Wash stated over the ship intercom. We all braced ourselves as gunshots could be heard from outside.
As the trio were finally inside Wash took off, the cargo bay door not even closed yet. When the door finally closes, the three briskly head to the infirmary. "What's going on?" Kaylee whispered from my right. "I don't know." I replied as we both made our way to the infirmary after them.
We walked in to see Simon stitching up a wound in Jayne's right shoulder. "Just a little bullet. Don't know why ya are all fussin'." Jayne mumbled, flinching as the needle pierced his skin. "I'm fussin' 'cause now you're out of commission until the doc says so!" Mal snapped as Simon finished stitching him up.
They spotted Kaylee and I in the doorway. "I'll need a checkup later doc." Zoë patted Simon on the back and left the room as Mal sighed, exasperated at Jayne. I threw Zoë a worried look over my shoulder that she waved off. I gave my attention to Jayne as soon as Zoë was out of sight.
I stood in front of him and shook my head as Simon and Kaylee left. "Your cooking did it! If he had ran faster he'd be fine!" Mal nudged me with his elbow, trying to lighten the mood. "You boys need to be more careful!" I huffed, nudging Mal back.

"Quit worryin' over me! Your hoverin' is makin' me antsy!" Jayne swatted at my hands as I went to fix his pillow behind him again. "Hush." was all I replied with, handing him a pain pill that Simon gave to me as he winced again. With a sigh Jayne finally gave in and took the pill. "There. Now stop worryin'!" Jayne scowled at me as I sat in the chair by his bed.
"Let me take care of you! I can't take care of my own right now." I whispered the last part, looking away. I missed my Rosie terribly. Jayne turned away with a sigh. "Fine."

"That pill should have knocked you out by now." I stated as Jayne kept staring at me. "You're nice." Jayne grinned, dopey from the medicine. "Thank you." I patted him on his uninjured shoulder. "Will you rub my head? My Ma used to do that when I didn't feel good." He asked, leaning back and closing his eyes. With a small smile, I did as he asked.
"You're really pretty, ya know." Jayne sighed, half asleep. "You're going to regret your words Jayne." I giggled, still rubbing his head. "Yeah."

I jolted awake as Jayne stirred beside me. "You didn't have to stay. It's almost midnight. Go to your room." Jayne sighed, sitting up. "I'm fine. Do you need something?" I asked, looking around sleepily. "Just got back from the bathroom. If ya stayin' here ya might as well be comfortable." Jayne looked away, holding the blankets open.
"Are you sure?" I asked, smiling as he blushed. It was so cute. "Just hurry before I change my mind." He huffed. I slowly crawled in bed beside him, glad I was on his left. He wrapped his left arm around me and was real quiet as we laid there. "Don't you tell a soul." Was all he grumbled before his light snores could be heard in my ear.
