Olivia tossed her purse onto the kitchen table along with her keys with the worst headache in the world. Today was just not her day from when she woke up an hour late for work to when she spilled scalding hot tea on her during her break. She looked down to the brown spot on one of her favorite blouses and huffed. "I need a nap," she groaned once she plopped on the couch. Her eyes were just closing when she heard feet padding against the hardwood floors towards her. "Hey hon, how was work?" her fiance, Garret popped around the corner in his plaid pajama pants and his white band tee. She grimaced, feeling a bit ticked at his oblivious question.
"I don't want to talk about it."
Garret ignored her clear annoyance with him and sat himself right next to her. He could always tell when something was up--not that it was being hidden this time. He nudged her with his elbow and earned a groan in return as she slumped to the side in exhaustion. "Just one of those days, huh?" he observed as his eyes spotted the rather large brown stain on her blue flowery shirt. She did a simple nod then referred back to her original position.
He chuckled then pulled her over to him, letting her head rest on his chest. Olivia snuggled up to his warmth while sleep was closing in on her. Garret stroked her messy midnight hair as she hummed her appreciation. About forty minutes had passed while they sat there in silence, her in a light slumber while Garret admired her soft features and quiet breathing. In this short, quiet time, he had thought about how much she's been working lately and decided to repay her for taking care of things. He had been unemployed for a couple of months now after being let go from his warehouse job due to downsizing. Olivia was so supportive during this trying time he was going through. She even went out and got another job just so he could focus on getting back on his feet. Garret smiled as his secret plan became more solid in his mind. Proud of himself and the plan he came up with, Garret lifted up off the couch, carrying Olivia with him, and headed towards the bedroom. Once he got her into her own pajamas and into bed, he grabbed his phone to start making a few arrangements.
------------
Olivia rolled over and stretched as a strangled yawn came out her mouth. She opened her eyes with a slight smile that slowly disappeared once she noticed she was alone on her queen sized bed. Olivia sat up in confusion but closed her eyes and moaned at the smell of bacon in the air. Excitedly, she yanked the covers off of herself and rushed to the kitchen. She hid behind the door frame as she watched Garret sing along to some rock and roll song in his head and flip a pancake perfectly over the stove. He hadn't heard her sneak behind him when she yelled, "Boo!" as loud as she could. He jumped and dropped the spatula on the ground as he turned to face her. His already ivory skin turned pale as he gripped his chest and panted. "You nearly gave me a heart attack, hon!"
"I couldn't help it," she giggled as she took a piece of bacon off of a plate full of it.
"I take it someone slept well," Garret asked, resuming to cook.
"A bit achy still but overall yeah. I just wish I didn't have to come in today. After filing all those documents yesterday, my fingers are too cramped to clean anything."
When Olivia wasn't in the office taking calls and fetching coffee for her demanding boss, she was busy cleaning houses for those who couldn't get their kids to do it. Garret felt a twinge on his heart for putting her through so much but only sucked in a breath as he remembered the plan he made just hours ago. He turned off the stove and carried the pan over to the plates he had set out earlier with various food on them already. Garret set her plate in front of her while he sat in the chair across from the one she took. His smile widened in anticipation as she giggled at the plate. He had made her pancake into a face using bananas as eyes, a strawberry for a nose, and whipped cream as the smile. He used the bacon as hair and had eggs under it in the shape of a bow-tie. Her eyes gleamed towards him. No wonder I love this goof, she thought, grabbing her knife and fork to dig in. "You are too much, Garebear," she laughed and put a forkful of eggs in her mouth.
