[][][][][]fingers curling around the little spoon, the pretty long-haired man plopped a strawberry ice cream scoop onto a sugar cone before sprinkling multi-colored sprinkles on top and finishing it with a cherry. chocolate eyes shifting to the little girl across the counter, he cracked a big grin before handing the sweet to her.
johnny depp never pictured himself working at baskin robbins. maybe when he was young, but he was nearly twenty-seven and still didn't have any stability in his life. it worried him, and definitely his mom, but he did what he had to do. plus, it was nice to be able to make a child's day. it made him feel important, even if he really wasn't.
frowning at his thoughts, he shook his head before running a tattooed hand through his hair. that was a lie-- he was important. without him, who would clean the bathrooms at the end of the day or who would memorize the regulars' names? that was another thing he enjoyed about his job, greeting the customers who came in every week. he felt like he made people's days when he welcomed them into the shop.
before he knew it, his day was over and he was settling down in his living room with a bowl of instant noodles and his laptop. johnny slurped a piece of artificial broccoli into his mouth before sucking for air, fanning his mouth at how hot his dinner was.
"it just came out of the microwave, dumbass," he grumbled to himself before placing the piping bowl on his coffee table. steam arose from the juice and he furrowed up his brows.
johnny didn't take good care of himself. he showered and always brushed his teeth, but when it came to looking out for his well being he was quite the disappointment. maybe it was embarrassing, but the young man needed someone around to look out for him. if he could, he would still be living with his mom, but she moved to alaska with her fiance and john wasn't a fan of the cold. plus, it snowed a lot there-- he disliked snow more than his stepdad, which was saying something.
biting down on the inside of his cheek, he pushed those thoughts away. he could find a gal easily, right? he did work with people all day, he should be able to meet someone next week! despite his wishful thinking, he knew that he was wrong. he had, in fact, tried putting himself out there at work, but never got anywhere. hell, he'd been working at the parlor for a year now and still hadn't found anyone!
did he smell?
scowling, johnny quickly typed in the link for netflix before clicking on the first feel-good-movie he saw: wall-e. right before making the screen full size, an add caught his eye. it was for a dating website, plenty o' fish, which pledged that it would help him find the love of his life. he laughed out loud, the husky sound startling his guinea pig who was in her cage down the hall.
"my ass," he snorted before bringing his attention back to his movie of choice. he sat there quietly, his once hot soup forgotten on the table before him. gnawing on his bottom lip, johnny shifted restlessly.
he only got about ten minutes into the animation before he began to drum his fingers on his thigh, "fuck it."
clicking out of netflix, he typed 'plenty o fish' into the search bar before pulling up the website. scanning the slogans and many, obviously staged, photographs he swiftly selected 'create an account.'
john depp: 26, animal lover.
with that, he shut off his laptop and shifted into a more comfortable position, his anxiety quite apparent. what if he didn't get any match? or worse, what if he did get a match and the woman was a cuckoo? frown setting in, he shrugged.
"you've done it now, man." closing his eyes, johnny relaxed and tried his best to ignore the butterflies erupting in his stomach and the nagging in his head.
