New Moon Rising
When I woke up the morning after moving into the new house, I felt so drained. Mom decided that it would be a good idea to move away from Manhattan and my father. My parents had gotten a divorce a few months before when it came out that my father, famous corporate attorney Jamison Carver, was having multiple affairs with women old enough to be my sisters. I took a deep breath before sitting up and stepping out of bed.
I got up and walked out of my room to find my sister fussing about the arrangement of towels in the hall closet. "I can't find my favorite towel! Mom! Where did you put my Catwoman towel?"
I rolled my eyes. "You are so annoying," I said smirking. She turned around and gave me the evil eye.
"Shut up, ass."
"Right back at you, slut."
"Hey, hey, hey!" Mom screamed. She walked out of her bedroom and came over to us. Her dark auburn hair was wild and she was still in her nightgown. "If you two don't stop with this foolishness, I'm going to go off! I'm getting tired of this now. Apologize," she said sternly.
Addie crossed her arms and rolled her eyes.
"Fine. I'll be the bigger person-um, scratch that. I'm a size four. It's obviously impossible for me to be bigger than you," I laughed.
Mom smacked me on the arm. "Ainsley."
"Sorry, Addie," I said, embarrassed that my mother was chastising me.
"Sorry, Ainsley." Just then Addie's phone began playing Rihanna's song Man Down. Cause I didn't mean to hurt him/Coulda been somebody's son/And I took his heart when/I pulled up that gun.
She ran to her room to answer her cellphone. "Must be that damned boy," Mom said before turning around. The 'damned boy' she was referring to was Addie's boyfriend back in New York, Miguel Chavez. Mom didn't like him. She thought he was a hood rat who was only interested in having sex with her innocent daughter Adalyne. Of course, Mom doesn't know that Addy loves having sex. Especially when it's with a hot Dominican from the Bronx.
I walked over to the hall closet and pulled out a towel. It was Addie's Catwoman towel. I smirked and headed to the bathroom for a hot shower. After breakfast, Addy and I headed outside and got in her car. My father had it delivered the day before. Addy was allowed to get her Massachusetts license before we moved while she was staying with our Aunt Alessandrina and Uncle Paul in Boston. As soon as we got in, she started blasting Rihanna's last album Loud. I popped my earphones in and played my favorite band, Say Anything's, record In Defense of the Genre. Addy and I didn't really have a lot of things in common and musical taste was one of those things.
She sped in the direction of the school, Kevin Gerald Senior High School. What a mouthful. I thought we were going to die before we even got to start at our new school. Finally, we pulled into the school parking lot. I hurried up and got out of the car before something bad happened. "Addy, please don't leave without me."
"Of course not," she yawned, uninterested.
"Seriously!"
She rolled her eyes as she got out of the car. "I heard you!"
I walked inside the school with Addie following. We made our way to the main office. When we entered the office, a receptionist in her fifties with bright red hair, motioned for us. "You two must be the new girls, Adalyne and Ainsley Carver?" She had a very thick southern accent.
I nodded my head and smiled. "Yes, that's right."
She smiled back. "I'm Mrs. Hartwick. I've got your schedules right here."
