SMACK!
"Andy wake up!" Said the voice of my fourteen year old sister, my eyes quickly opening at the tingling pain of her handprint on my bare back.
"Dude, did you really have to slap me?" I replied in a sluggish voice.
"You slept through your alarm, I had to do what I had to do."
"Wha-?" I questioned, looking to the red digital numbers on my bedside table that read 7:53 a.m. "Shoot." I muttered under my breath, pushing my sister Julie out of my way so I could quickly throw on a T-shirt and blue jeans.
"You better hurry. If I'm late to my first day of high school because of you, I'm going to make your senior year a living nightmare." Julie threatens, evilly glaring at me as she backed out of my room and ran down the stairs.
I followed Julie to the living room, quickly grabbing my car keys and backpack, rushing out to my car. The two of us hop into the red BMW in the driveway I got for my 16th birthday last year.
"One rule. Don't embarrass me at school. Kapeesh?" I said to Julie, pulling into my senior parking space that was right in front of the Performing Arts Center. She nodded and the two of us walked into the Student Union, where the whole school was gathered before school. Julie quickly found her friends and ditched me. However, the head cheerleader and hottest chick at school took her place when she came over and threw her arms around me.
"Baby!" She shrieked happily, her cheerleader friends standing behind her giggling.
"Hey, Ellie." I replied nonchalantly, hugging my girlfriend back.
"Babe I have so much to tell you! I haven't seen you in like, forever! Not since Damion's party a few weeks ago!" Ellie chattered excitedly. "I've got a foreign exchange student staying with me! It's super cool we're basically like sisters now."
"That's nice." I replied, sitting down at one of the empty lunch tables, the clique of cheerleaders sitting around me, Ellie right at my side.
"Yeah, I know! The only problem is that she's in theatre, which, you know, makes her a super nerd. I can totally change that though. I'm thinking of getting her to join the squad so she can stand with the other girls and cheer behind me while I take the spotlight." Ellie bragged.
"If she likes theatre, why not let her try what she likes?" I asked. "I mean, she only gets one year here, don't ruin it for her."
"Whatever. She'll love me and the girls." Ellie snapped back, crossing her arms. "Oh my Gosh! There she is! Come meet her, babe!"
Before I could respond, Ellie had my hand in hers and was pulling me over to the shorter girl with curly hair and glasses. I don't know what crazy super power girls have, but when they want something, they get super strength. Because when I say she pulled me over to the girl, I literally mean it.
"Carly!" Ellie squealed, throwing her arms around the girl, who, by the looks of it, did not want Ellie touching her.
"Ah, it's actually Charlie." Said the freckled girl.
"Oh. Whoopsies!" Ellie said, grabbing Charlie's wrist and pulling her closer to me and the group of cheerleaders standing behind me.
Behind Charlie, stood a girl and a boy. The girl was taller than him, and she had darker skin and gorgeous brown eyes. She looked to be Filipino, contrasting the boy's lighter skin and hazel-green eyes the went perfectly with his chestnut colored hair. He had few freckles around his round face, most of them on his upturned nose that seemed to scrunch up when he got annoyed at Ellie for interrupting their conversation.
"Excuse me? We were talking to her?" The Filipino looking girl said to Ellie.
"And now I'm talking to her. Run along thespians."
"Please, like she actually wants to speak to you? Just because you're 'roomies' doesn't mean that she likes you. So kindly remove yourself from this area before I pull that fake blonde ponytail off of your head."
"Excuse me!" Ellie said defensively, turning to face the girl completely.
I chimed in before things got heated, "Elle, I'll meet her later, okay? Let's go." I put my hands on Ellie's shoulders and gestured for her to go somewhere else, her clique following close behind her like little ducklings.
As I turned to follow the girls, I gave the three thespians one last glance and mouthed "Sorry about her" to them, receiving a sweet smile from the short boy, and him getting one right back from me. I turned away from them and snapped back to reality, thinking to myself;
Who is that boy, and why did he give me butterflies when I saw him?
