i watched everyone on my floor go up and down stairs with boxes in their arms. i was so excited to finally not be living in a dorm and finally be moving into my own apartment. a new one. with new people. and my first internship. i finished medical school and couldn't wait to get started really working in the ER. even if it was just following some teacher around.

as i looked at all the people moving into this new apartment building, i realized every single person was old. great. just great. i move into an apartment and i can't even find real friends here. i had friends in college, but most of us split up after most of us finished our schooling and started our internships. but i was really looking for a guy. not that i wanted to get married, i'm only 23, but i wanted someone that i could have a good relationship with.

i looked to my left and saw that there was no one moving into the apartment next door. weird because this apartment building was supposedly completely full. it's hard to get a nicer apartment in LA for a price that isn't insane, so when this complex went on the market, people jumped at the opportunity. not that my apartment was great, it was a very small bedroom, a bathroom, and a kitchen that was barely a place to cook. there was an island in the kitchen, a very small one, but i thought it made the place look nice. it looked complete. there wasn't really room for a couch and a tv, but i had room for one in my bedroom.

my back was against the door as i watched all the old couples move into their apartments. i didn't know old people really lived in LA. i turned around and dropped off the box in my arms in the apartment and then turned back around and continued taking in all the boxes outside my door. luckily i didn't have too much unpacking to do because the big stuff was already set up.

after taking all the boxes in and unpacking almost everything, i decided to take a walk and get something to eat. i was so fucking excited to be in LA. it's been a dream of mine since i was in middle school. i rushed out the door to greet my new life in the busy city.

after about an hour, it was about 8pm and i started walking home. once i made it back to my apartment, carrying all of my bags up the stairs with me, i realized from the silence that all my neighbors were asleep. guess that means no parties in my apartment. who am i kidding, i couldn't fit more than 3 people in there.

i walked inside and was about to close the door when i heard someone coming up the stairs, their feet pounding quickly against the steps. i waited for them to come up, wanting to see who it was. i turned my head and saw a guy holding two boxes, and a backpack. he had long, wavy, bleach blonde hair, he was wearing an untucked white button up and black ripped jeans with dirty, white, high top Vans on. he walked up to the door next to mine, the one no one had moved into earlier. he dropped all his stuff on the ground to get his key, which made a loud bang that rang throughout the complex.
"hello?" i said sticking my head out of my door, confused.
"huh?" he said turning his head towards me after opening his door. he looked me up and down as he spoke.
"you were supposed to move in between 12 and 5 so you can talk to our land lord." i said, confused.
"it's not like i missed anything important." he scoffed, throwing his suitcase and boxes in his house without looking at me.
"except for seeing that our neighbors make this place look like a retirement home. oh yea, and meeting the man that owns your apartment." i informed him.

"well, as long as the neighbors don't mind me bringing girls over." he winked, and i rolled my eyes.

"you're gonna bring girls into that tiny ass apartment?" i said smirking at him.

" they don't care about the size of my apartment they care about the size of my-"
"do not take that sentence any further." i said, smirking but also disgusted.

he grinned and walked into his apartment.

i shook my head and chuckled as i walked back inside. i guess maybe not all my neighbors would be shitty.
