A breeze swept through her long auburn hair as she walked down the street. It was refreshing to be finally going to the pool! It was so long since she had gone and her friend she hadn’t seen in forever was meeting her there. Today was going to be the best day ever. She smiled to herself as she turned the corner, her phone buzzing in her hand. Lifting it to her line of vision, she read the text, ‘Yo Katie! I’m at the pool! Where are yoooooooou!?’ A smile formed on her face as she texted back, sending the message. Her friend was really a handful but she loved her. They had been friends since third grade all because of a project. It was funny how a friendship could bud from a school forced pairing. That memory always seemed to make Katie smile. It was truly the best thing that had happened to her.

Approaching the pool finally, she met up with her friend who was waving enthusiastically at her to join. Katie waved back and traveled over to the corner area where they normally sat. “Katieeeee what took you so long! I was dying of boredom!” She whined jumping up to seize her friend into a hug.

Katie blinked then started to laugh at the sudden hug. “Sam, I was only twenty minutes late.” She hugged her friend back then looked at her, “I’m sure you could have survived.”

Samantha’s eyes widened, “Twenty minutes is like… A millennium!!!” She then smiled and took the bags from Katie, placing them down on her towel. “Well anyways, I’m glad that you are finally here. Queen of the slow pokes…” She looked over at Katie with a facetious grin, making them both burst into laughter. Samantha was known for being a goof ball no matter the circumstances. Her light brown eyes always lit up with such life and enthusiasm. She truly was a great person to be around. With a sigh, Samantha flung her blond hair out of her face and looked at Katie. “So, do you want to swim or talk about boys~” She winked teasingly towards the other playfully.

Katie listened to Samantha speak and blinked at her statement about boys. She smiled, “Sam, what are we in grade school? You are such a kid sometimes!” She tossed a towel at Sam, hitting the other gently. After sharing a laugh, they sat down looking at the water and the people swimming, having a good time. “What do you think we should do?”

Sam sighed thoughtfully and glanced over at her, “Mmm the boy thing sounds fun actually.” A smile formed on her face as she fixed herself on the towel to face Katie. “Soooo anyone you like~? I mean you are in college!”

Katie listened to her friend, her vision of the pool suddenly being obstructed by Samantha as she sat down in front of her. She blinked, her eyes widening slightly. With a smile, she shook her head. “You know I never dated anyone before. Nor would I…” With this statement, Katie glanced away from her friend’s intense stare, focusing her gaze back on the pool.

Samantha cocked her head slightly, “Still?! Come on Katie! You are gorgeous! Why won’t you give it a try?” Her light brown eyes softened a bit, looking into Katie’s grey ones. She knew Katie had low self-esteem and it was sad. The girl was gorgeous but never gave herself the chance to have one positive thought regarding her looks.

Katie sighed softly and looked at Samantha, “So, pool right?” She got to her feet and smiled, extending her hand.

Samantha watched as she got up extending her hand and sighed heavily. She knew Katie was avoiding the whole subject, “You know, you really are a party pooper...” She accepted Katie’s hand and got to her feet, both girls heading over to the pool.
