Rain drops padded down your window, hard but comforting. The rain had a special power of doing that, comforting and calming, with each droplet washing another worth away. You sat propped against your window and let your mind wander, your only focus on each droplet racing toward the bottom of the glass. Lightning began, followed by a short roar of thunder. Your eyes shut as you listened; you couldn't be more at peace.

The sun was beginning to set and the outside world was becoming harder to see. With a sigh, you left your perch at the window to light some candles. Your parents were away for the week on business and you had the house to yourself, so you might as well enjoy yourself while you can. After lighting a few around your room, you found yourself in the middle of your bed with your current read in hand. What's a better way to spend a rainy evening?

Your phone buzzed, but not wanting to lose your place, left the message unread until you were finished with your chapter. When you finally picked it up, you seen the screen read a new message from your boyfriend, Ryan.

URGENT: want to go on a late night adventure? it read.

Confused, you replied:

What did you have in mind? Kind of too rainy to do much..

Moments later your phone chimed again: a surprise. just be ready in 10, ok? You replied an 'OK' and went to get ready.

You changed from your pj's to a hoodie of Ryan's and a pair of your favorite jeans. You had just enough time to brush your hair and put on minimal makeup before the doorbell rung.

By the time Ryan arrived, the rain had slowed to a drizzle and the lightning and thunder stopped completely. "Ready?" He asked, taking your hand in his. You nodded in response, quite curious as to what he had planned. He led you to his car, helped you in, the got into the drivers side. "Alright, close you eyes, babe. I want this to be a surprise."

You rolled your eyes, but obeyed. "It better be something good." You reply as he takes off.

What felt like an eternity of waiting later, you felt the car slow and stop. "Don't open your eyes just yet, okay?" Ryan said, and you could hear the grin in his talk. He was excited about this, which assured you that you were going to love this.

He opened up your car door and took your hand. "Here, get on my back. I'm going to give you a piggyback ride." He said, and helped you climb onto him. You wrapped your arm around his neck for support and he grabbed onto your legs. As he walked you to your destination, you rested your head on his shoulder.

Soon, the scent of his cologne began to melt into the scent of salt water, and you knew where you were - the beach, where you and Ryan first met. Unable to contain your excitement much longer, you opened your eyes. You were met with an empty beach with roaring waves, an occasional seagull here and there. You peered down to Ryan and kissed him on the cheek. "Aw, Ry... This is really romantic." You whispered to his ear before giving his cheek another kiss. You could feel the blush on him, and loved how nervous he still got. For the rest of the walk, you rested your chin on the of his head and took it all in. God, did you love him.

He set you down onto the sand far from the boardwalk behind you, where few people walked. You sat down on the sand and took off your shoes, digging your toes into the damp sand. He took his spot next to you and wrapped an arm around your shoulders. "Did I do a good job? I was hoping the rain would stop..." He asked, looking over to you.

"Perfect. I love you, Ryan." You reply, smiling to him.

"Love you too, (y/n)." He responded, lifting your chin to give you a kiss. Each time felt like the first with him. Each kiss a little more passionate than the last. You never wanted to let him go.

He laid back into the sand, his leather jacket rolled up under his head. You laid your head on his chest, your eyes looking at the stars. The sky cleared after the rain, and it seemed each star shined so much brighter tonight. You connected the dots, pointing out the shapes you saw to Ryan, and he did the same.

With your head on his chest, you could hear only the sound of his heart beating with a faint sound of waves crashing in the background as you moved gently with his each breath. His heartbeat worked like those raindrops, each beat comforting and calming. You reached a hand over to his, which rested on his stomach. Carefully, you ran a finger over the veins of his hand, tracing each until they disappeared. You felt his other hand in your hair, gently massaging your head. Everything was perfect and quiet and peaceful, and you didn't want it to end.

Ryan pressed his lips to your head and gave you a series of soft kisses. You returned the favor by kissing his hand, nuzzling yourself into him. You took his hand in yours, lacing your fingers together. His fingers rubbed at yours, calming as the sea. "(y/n), I love you. So, so much." Ryan whispered into your hair.

"Me too, Ryan. I love you so, so much." You replied, giving his hand another kiss.

He sat up, slowly, as to not disturb you completely. "No. No, I love you so much. I-... I can't even begin to explain my love for you, (y/n). You complete me. You are my sea, my sky, my world. I am in love with you." You're sitting with him now, and see him reach into his jeans pocket. He continues, "(Y/n), you pick me up when I'm down. You've seen me at my lowest points and put up with the stupid things I do. I love you so much and... and I don't want to risk ever losing you." He pulls out a velvet box. Oh my god. "Will you marry me?" He opens it up, revealing a ring with a small diamond. He raises a brow at you, looking you directly in the eyes with his beautiful brown ones.

A hand covers your mouth. Did this really just happen? You can hardly believe it. Tears begin forming in your eyes as you shake you head quickly, a smile wide on your face. "Yes, yes, of course..!!" You exclaim, tackling him to the sand before he could do anything.

You're on top of him now and practically smother him in kisses. His strong arms wrap around you, your hands holding each side of his face. You feel rain begin again, a light drizzle, but that is the least of your worries. Eventually you roll off next to him, and he takes your hand, slipping the diamond onto your finger. You hold your hand up to the sky, admiring it.

You lean over and kiss him again, long and slow. He is your world, and you his, and now you will take the world together, conquering each battle you come across. You grab his jacket and standing, holding you hand out to him. "C'mon, let's get out of here before it rains any harder." He grins and takes your hand, standing. He gives you a kiss on the forehead, and the two of you head back, hand in hand.
