Lily Jade was an average teenage girl. She went to school, had a driver's license, and got average grades. She wasn't popular, but she also wasn't made fun of or anything of the like.
Lily was the type of girl to sit in the back of the class and read. She always had a book with her. It was like her clutch, in a way. She was never seen without one.
On this snowy day, she was clad in a yellow sweater, black converse, yellow scarf, grey jeans, and black framed glasses. Probably not the best attire for the winter, but it would have to do. It was the first thing she picked out of her closet actually.
She sat in the back of English class once again, reading We All Looked Up by Tommy Wallach. It was one of the best apocalypse type books she had ever read so far. No zombies were involved nor any aliens. It was about the world ending in two months because of an asteroid coming to Earth. It was told in a third person limited point of view, but each chapter switched between four characters. She was really close to being finished with it actually.
"Lily!" called the teacher, Ms. Sawyer, drawing all eyes on Lily. "You need to start paying attention! I know this is English class, but you need to stop reading and learn. Did you know that you have to do a group project over whatever book you and your partners choose and now you don't have a partner? You might have to get another "
Ms. Sawyer was obviously getting fed up with how Lily didn't care. It's not that she didn't care, it's that she just had better things to do than schoolwork and homework. At least she did her work.
"Sorry Ms. Sawyer. I just can't help it," her face was a flaming red by now and she started to panic, "It's really good so far and I can't put it down."
The brown eyed teacher sighed, "Just put your book away before I take it."
The brunette nodded and put a bookmark into the book and put it under her desk. This was the third time this week that she had been told to put her book away and it was only Monday. It was also third period.
Ms. Sawyer continued on with the lesson and Lily her hardest to pay attention. Her mind was led elsewhere. Actually, her mind was blank. She wasn't thinking of anything. Although she could go for a coffee.
She would definitely have to go to the local coffee shop/book store, Sip N' Sit Books, later.
Sip N' Sit Books was a quaint little coffee shop where you could buy books and get pretty damn good coffee. People could drop off books for the cafe to sell and get a free coffee if they donated. The books were pretty low priced too, about 2 to 5 dollars.
Lily heard the sound of the bell ringing in no time and she gathered up her stuff, rushing to get to her next class, P.E. It was actually an alright class. Sure, they had to walk around the gym for 10 to 15 minuets everyday, but they could do pretty much anything afterwards.
Either way, she couldn't wait to get a cup of coffee and get out of that hellhole.
