Amesty couldn't help but laugh, she picked up the dirty-blonde wolf kid and looked at Aspen.
They had to help him. It wasn't just obligation but Amesty felt like he more than deserved to live.
"What's your name, little guy?" Amesty asked.
"I'm not so sure.. My kin used to call me Numiah, though."
"Then we'll just call you Numiah! We're gonna get you healed soon, okay?" Amesty promised
"And I'll protect you from the bad guys in the tunnel!" Aspen said, knife in hand.
"Okay..," Numiah said as he drifted into sleep "thank you"

And before they knew it they were carrying a werewolf through a tunnel that seemed to be endless, hoping that they could get ahold of someone who could heal the kid.

The tunnel seemed way darker than it looked from outside, it was also much thinner than Amesty thought. Aspen was way ahead of Amesty and Numiah, and whenever the two that were behind hit a rock or a sharp turn, Numiah yelped in pain. Nothing too loud, but it was definitely loud enough for Aspen to turn around and ask if Numiah was okay. Which Amesty always replied with,  "he should be okay, if we hurry up a bit"

But the three were a tad too slow, and Numiah's complaints seemed to increase more often. He was no longer asleep, and although he was no longer bleeding, he made it seem like all his bones were broken into a million pieces. The walk seemed to take forever, as it should.  The tunnel was about five miles long, the three only having really walked for 30 minutes had a long long way to go.  Numiah's pain seemed to increase by the second, "Shhh" Amesty said therapeutically, as she tried to get Numiah to sleep, "The pain will be over if you go to sleep, my dear". And just like that, Numiah's eyes shut slowly and he drifted off into a coarse but peaceful sleep. Amesty and Numiah had caught up to Aspen by that time, and they didn't have to yell at him to get him to be able to hear them.

" Why do you treat him as if he's your son?" Aspen blurted out of pure silence, breaking Amesty's peaceful thoughts.

"It's just nice, I think he likes it too" Amesty said, obviously lying

"You're kidding" Aspen said, turning around to give Amesty a smug, unpleased look.

"Fine" Amesty said, looking over to the coarse rock and dirt walls that surrounded them and made them cough and sneeze.

"What's the real reason? " Aspen asked.

"When Numiah asked if he knew me, it felt like I had known him. But I didn't want to say anything, because in reality he felt like a little brother to me" Amesty explained, holding Numiah in her arms, rubbing his dirty blonde hair, and making sure he was still asleep.
