The next morning Harry, Ginny, Ron, Hermione, Mr, and Mrs. Weasley, and Tonks were all going to Diagon Alley, and some Aurors would probably meet then on the way thanks to Voldemort wanting to kill Harry. They got there quickly and entered the Leaky Cauldron meeting Hagrid inside instead of Aurors much to Harry's pleasure. After tapping certain bricks with his wand Mr. Weasley led them all into Diagon Alley.
"Alright now you three and Hagrid go to Flourish-"
"Can't we do that later mum?" Ginny cut off Mrs. Weasley "Can't we go to Fred and George's place?" Everyone agreed with her.
"Oh, yes... Alright. Let's go then," She beckoned them forward and together the group made there way down the deserted Alley. It looked much different from the last time Harry saw it... No more Ollivanders, no more ice cream shop, no more broom shop, no more anything except for a few small stores, but the one thing that was new was at the very end. And huge, colorful, fun looking building. Fred and George's Joke Shop.
Inside was even better than out. Everywhere you looked there were Love Potions, Puking Pastlies, Fever Fudge, Peruvian Darkness Powder, Trick Wands, Fireworks, Nosebleed Nougat, and much, much more. Not to mention about every student at Hogwarts, Harry and Ron saw Dean Thomas, Seamus Finnigan, and Neville Longbottom, all from their year.
After everyone had got there fill of jokes and tricks they all continued their much more dull and depressing shopping. Every shop they went in the owners would flinch at the loud sounds and look devastatingly at Harry as though he was a small child doing something wrong.
"Well, mate, at least they look sad about Who-Know-Who wanting to kill you," Ron muttered in Harry's ear as they entered Madame Malkins.
"Yeah..." Harry rolled his eyes.
Finally everyone was ready to make their way back home in the Ministry car which after Ron said he loved, Mrs. Weasley reminded him they were only for Harry. Harry said nothing to this feeling ashamed that they had to go through all this trouble for him.
"Well, safe trip back!" Tonks called though in a less happy and herself voice. "I have to go do some Auor stuff," and with that she disaperated. Her mousey brown hair, it was no longer the bright pink Harry remembered, swishing behind her.
After they got back, all the Hogwarts students packed their trunks with the new things they bought, and put it all down stairs for tomorrow when they would go back to school. Everyone was excited but the parents seemed anxious to keep them as long as possible. Especially Mrs. Weasley.
As Harry and Ron were packing Ron suddenly looked up from his DADA book he was packing. "Blimey, mate, it's your 16th birthday I almost forgot what with all the Diagon Alley business, sorry. Here's your present anyway," Ron handed Harry a small package which turned out to be 10 Galleons.
"Blimey, Ron... You seriously did not have to give me this," Harry stammered
"Yeah well, considering your life sucked last year thought I make up to it," Ron grinned.
Harry rolled his eyes "Thanks then, a lot," he made a mental note to give the money back somehow without Ron noticing.
Harry then turned to the other presents he got from Hermione, Mrs. Weasley, Fred and George, and Hagrid. From Hermione he got a book about defensive and offensive spells, from Mrs. Weasley he got a sweater with a large golden snitch on it, a nice fake wand and a Skiving Snackbox from Fred and George, and from Hagrid he got more pictures in his scrapbook of his parents and now Sirius, and some rock cakes. There was also one more present from... Sirius. In his hurry to tear it open he cut himself on something sharp swearing under his breath he tried to wipe blood off his finger and continuing opening the present, cutting himself yet-again on a different finger. In his hast to open the present and not wanting to cut himself again Harry grabbed his wand only to put it back down remembering he couldn't do magic. Thought finally he opens the present to find a broken mirror...
Harry sat down on his bed examining it when Hermione can in.
"Harry! Why is there blood on you wand?!"
"What? Oh right, that," he answer brushing the hair out of his eyes with his bloody hand, big mistake.
"Harry! What have you been doing!? Ron! What has he been doing?" Hermione said staring at his hand
"Look Hermione, I cut myself on a piece of glass, and then picked up my wand, but remembering I couldn't use magic, put it back down. Blimey Voldemort didn't try to kill me," he added under his breath. Hermione gave him a harsh stare as though she heard him and said "Well Happy Birthday anyway Harry I hope you liked my present," and left. Harry never had another chance to look at the mirror, and before he knew it he was already on the Hogwarts express.
