can you pretend to like me
can you pretend to tolerate me
can you pretend to be a friend to me;

just so that i don't look more
s h a t t e r e d,
b r o k e n,
d a m a g e d,
in front of everyone?
(and so you can't use it against me)

just you pretend that you like me,
and i'll pretend that i'm totally okay with that.
because
i've been pretending everything is okay
since the very beginning
