Maybe Loving You was a Mistake

Prologue

When we are born, our parents show us what to do and what not to do. They do their absolute best to raise the perfect child. But what happens when your parents don't want you? When they point blank ignore you and reject you. You've probably heard stories about ‘misfit” children and rebellious youth, but me, I'm not like them. After my mother died, it was just me and dad. At first he was there for me, helping me understand where mom went. But eventually, he would leave for work early in the mornings and come home late at night drunk. Each day got worse and slowly the emotional abuse would turn physical. I can’t tell you how many countless nights I stayed up, hoping that I wouldn’t wake up to my father hovering over my bed.  My name is Emily Charles, and this is my story; this is my life.
