After passing only a few compartments, James, Fred and Roxanne had quickly realised they were too late to bag one just for themselves. So instead of looking for spaces they looked for recognisable faces of their friends. After another few minutes of completely unsuccessful searching James spotted a streak of green out of the corner of his eye, on further inspection he realised it was the same dark green cat from earlier. Upon realising this James looked at the cat expectantly, hoping it would lead him to the owner. But this cat was far too content, laying curled in a corner, to be moving any time soon. Unfortunately for James his cousins were not so intrigued by the cat and had moved on not realising James wasn't following. The mysterious green cat still refused to budge for James so he gave up, only then realising his cousins were out of sight.
James walked absentmindedly down the train hearing snippets older students conversations about who the nicest teacher was or if so-and-so would admit to having a crush on so-and-so. He could smell the rich mixed aroma of Pumpkin Pie, Bertie Botts every flavour beans and various degrees of teenage body odour. So wrapped up in his thoughts he didn't realise he was about to walk into someone until it was too late and both of them were on the floor. He scrambled to his feet blushing furiously and offered a hand to the girl on the floor only then realising it was the cats owner.
"Hey, you're the girl from the platform aren't you? With the cat?"
"Yeah that's me. I was just looking for my cat actually." The girl replied, a smile forming on her lips. "I'm Ifah by the way, Ifah Blischen."
"Nice to meet you Ifah, my name's James, and I think I saw your cat a minute ago." James grinned back. He didn't reveal his last name straight away because, while he loved him, James didn't want to live in the shadow of his father. He wanted to make his own first impression and be known for his own deeds not those of his father.
The two first years soon found the cat again, purring peacefully. "There you are Viridi!" Ifah picked up her pet who began to hiss, annoyed at being woken from his nap.
"Viridi," James commented, "That's unusual."
"It means green in latin," Ifah informed him.
"Wow an original take on a very unoriginal name, I like it!"
"Thanks." Ifah laughed why don't you sit with me and my friend, we have our own compartment." James quickly agreed knowing the twins were long gone by now.
"Hi Bex." Ifah said to the girl as they entered the compartment. The girl had blue eyes and dark brown hair in two braids that only just reached her shoulders. "This is James, is it ok if he sits with us?"
"Sure!" The girl answered, "I'm Rebecca Corner, most people call me Bex though."
The three sat together and talked for a while, they discussed everything they knew about Hogwarts and how amazing properly learning magic will be. James learned quite a bit about the girls' families as well. Ifah was from a long line of pureblood Slytherins, some of which had supported the Dark lord. "I'm not proud of that part of my family history," she looked down, "my parents never did support him though and I don't believe in all of that blood-purity stuff." she added noting the apprehension on James' face.
James was grinning through Rebecca's description of her family, her mother was a muggle and got incredibly excited at any mention of magic much to the amusement of Rebecca's dad, the girl had countless stories that got James in stitches. These stories weren't the only thing about Bex's family that amused James though, he recognised the girls father as Michael Corner, who coincidentally happened to be his own mother's first boyfriend.
After the two girls completed telling their life story they looked expectantly at James who took a deep breath, "You'll want to know my story now won't you? Well my father is incredibly famous so no doubtedly you've heard of him. I'm a Potter."
"Woah, cool!" both girls gasped in excitement. Rebecca was surprised "So your dad is Harry Potter!"
"Yeah," James replied "and my mother is Ginny Potter, the famous quidditch star!"
Rebecca couldn't believe her ears, "Merlin's beard, I love the Holyhead harpies!". James grinned at the girl's response, he too was an avid quidditch fan. Though he supposed it would be a crime if he wasn't as he came from a long line of quidditch players. Contrary to her friend, Ifah was staying quiet during this discussion, though this didn't surprise James, if she came from a pureblood family it was to be expected.
