The Nine Tales of Naruto: Ni-ban

Chapter One: Half hearted villain

I looked at the boy before me. His face was darkened by the ash of fires that sprouted up around the village. Moegi and Udon stood resolutely before me at his side. These three were the closest things to family I ever had. I was still filled with a hatred for the Leaf but something in me fought when I thought about how I should handle this turn of events.

"What happened to you Naruto?" Konohamaru asked. "I looked up to you. We all did. How has your heart turned so black?" He focused on my face. I suppose he was looking for any signs of the old me, but there was none to find. Udon stepped forward and rubbed his nose on his sleeve. "We will stop you. You are our friend and we won't let you go like this.." He sounded brave but there was a crack in his voice.

Moegi was next to speak. "We love you Naruto-neesan. Please come back and teach us like before. Play games with us. Be our brother again." A small smile traced its way onto my lips. I remembered the fun I had being with them. A kunai dropped from my sleeve as I looked at them.

"Oh come on. How wishy-washy are you going to be. Kill them Naruto." The voice spoke from the rafters above. Fujiko descended to the floor and looked at the three before me. "Why do you hesitate my dear? Kill them." Her voice was sweet but sarcastic. I looked at Konohamaru and sighed. "Alright. And don't call me that. Konohamaru let us fight as real ninja should. Just me and you. If I win then your friends die. If you win then my fate is in your hands."

Konohamaru smiled and took up stance. A kunai was in his hand as well as he prepared himself. "Your eyes may have changed but I still see you in there." I couldn't answer to that. I didn't feel like anything from before. I honestly felt more whole now that I let the fox have me completely. But it was odd. I thought if I gave full control then the nine tails would be in control. "Konohamaru leave this place now. Meet me on the training grounds. There we will settle everything." I answered him.

Konohamaru looked to his friends and thought a moment. His friends nodded and both left. Konohamaru stayed behind long enough to speak. "I will meet you there in three hours. Then I will beat you back to normal." With those parting words he took off as well.

Fujiko scoffed and moved into view. "You just let them get away? What are you thinking?" I sighed and looked at the woman I have grown rather close to and decided to tell her the truth. "My time in this village has been hell. The only saving grace was that boy and his friends. They alone showed me kindness. And my ninja way tells me to give them a fair chance at a worthy death. Nothing more." I replied.

Fujiko seemed to mull it over for a bit but in the end she smiled. "Oh that is mean my dear. Give them hope to think they stand a chance, only to pull the rug from under them. I like it. Can I watch." I nodded and Fujiko clapped happily. "This will be fun."

I moved through the apartment and headed to where Orochimaru was holed up. The moment I pushed the doors open I saw the room was full of hustle as orders passed hands to be distributed throughout the army of misfits. "Orochimaru, I need to have a word with you." The thin man turned his head to me and smiled. "Naruto. So good of you to join us. I was just about to lay out my plans for the next phase. Care to join in on this?" Movement near the man showed a snake slithering around him. I shook my head. "No. I have a mission of my own. I have agreed to a duel with someone from my old life. I am here to tell you and everyone with you not to interfere."

Orochimaru glared at me. "You are not trying to turn against us, are you Naruto-boy?" I looked back at him. "No I am not. Fujiko will be keeping an eye on me. I just wish to settle a few things before I put this behind me." Orochimaru looked doubtful but in the end agreed to keep everyone away. Now all that was left was to prepare myself for the hardest fight of my life.
