It was a cold winter day. The air was so cold that when it hit the young girl's face, she sneezed. The girl was laughing with her friends and dancing like little goofballs. The girl looked over to where her friend that went to retrieve a ball, her friend was pink-headed as a sunset; with deep dark green eyes like the colour of the forest and a small frail body, the ball fell into the street. The girl did not see her pink-headed friend.
"Kay, where did you go?" The young girl called out to the pink-haired girl; running around. She passed trees and a bench, having her extremely long black hair flowing behind her when she reached the street that the ball had fallen on. The ball was still in the road laying there like it had not been moved from its spot. "Kay ...Please come out?" It came out more as a question then she had thought to say, the young girl stared into the distance with her diamond blue eyes.
"Adalynn!! Come on, you know it's dark. Let's go home." The mother of the young girl called. Adalynn stepped out into the road looking for the green-eyed girl that would not be there and then running to the ball on the ground.
"KAY PLEASE!" Adalynn called one last time. She then picked up the ball with small tears in her eyes, fearing the worst, for her dear friend. As she slowly walked back into the shadows she saw her dear friend talking to an old strange man in a cloak. He had silvery-white hair and piercing blue eyes. Kay was only eleven but this was still out of the blue. Running to her friend as fast as her small eleven-year-old body could take her, she had managed to make it before the man just vanished. "Kay what- who- how- when? Who was that?" Kay looked to her friend with a look of 'I have to tell you but not right now.' "Why not now!"
"I would, I swear it but someone may be lis-"Kay was cut off by Adalynn's mother screaming for them to get in the house before creepy strangers come out to play.... Or that's what Adalynn's mother always says. Adalynn then tells Kay that she must speak about this problem after they get inside and have some hot cocoa. They then walk over to Adalynn's mother and walk home.
After they get to Melinda, Adalynn's mother, she takes their hands and walks to her home.... They smile and say a small thank you to Adalynn's mother or Ms. Rogerson, as they grab hot coca each. They both race up to Ada's room and smile sitting down on the floor with a dollhouse in the background and clothes all over the room.
"Okay, so now that no one is listening in on us, spill the tea!" Ada almost screamed out in worry. She was most afraid of her friend that almost got kidnapped. The girl spoke about a new world that was of magic and had witches and wizards all over the land and about a school they will be going to on September 1. The girls were jumping with excitement. Kay also spoke of a letter that would arrive for both of them by an owl.
The next day they ran down screaming from there room that they shared when Kay was over from the Orphanage. They had some letters that were very specific to where they slept. Ada's letter was on the third floor 2 right bedroom. Kay's was the same thing since they shared a room together.
That's when they thought they would be getting in trouble because Ada's mother came into the room. They slowly looked up with guilty faces seeing at the mother, hoping they were not in trouble. The mother had appeared out of the shadows and looked to the two girls with a small smile.
"I am so happy you both are witches!" The mother broke into a happy grin. "I promised that I would teach you someday but I never did, did I?" The girls were shocked as Ms. Rogerson pulled out a wand and started the show. Books, chairs, even dogs were flying in the air mixing it up and putting it down; in the wrong places but it felt right. Everything was flying except the people in the house. "Kay, dearie, would you mind living with us from now on or do you still want to live with the orphanage?" The fragile girl looked over at the mother, her smiling happily with a grin that said more than a yes. "Just letting you both know that I got the adoption papers now there is only one thing left." She paused for a moment to see if the girls were listening and they were. "Do you want to keep your last name or not?" The girl grinned even more if that is truly even possible...
