As I snuck through the trees behind the houses I listened for any signs I had been seen. If my parents caught me I would be seeing Gabriele sooner than I planned. I reached the end of my street and exited the shadows. Shaking away my anxiety I began running, releasing myself from the painfulness that was once my home. I knew I had it better than the children at the hospital and would make sure to visit every day no matter what. The sun was fading into darkness and I figured I should find a place to camp out for the night. A cheap restuarant illuminated the dark street and I walked inside. A woman at the counter looked bored as she wrote notes in her book, she didn't look up as I walked in and I rang the bell.
"I saw you." She muttered not looking up.
"Can I have a room?" I demanded growing annoyed.
"You 18?" She sighed looking at me.
I gave her my fake I.D and she scanned it.
"$45.65" she sounded like she had a frog in her throat and I paid her.
"Thank you." She handed me my I.D and my room key.
"Check out is 10.30."
I thanked her again and went off to find my room. Hoping this wasn't a bad omen.
