Sorrow Takes a Step Back

   "Gramps... Will Akio be okay?" Grey asked as Makarov walked out of the infirmary with his head hung low. He clenched his fists slightly, the sight of one of his children beaten and scarred still laid unconscious in a bed made him furious.
   "Aye... but she still hasn't woken up yet, Porlyusica, has come down from her place in the forest to help her." He said and Grey just nodded, and walked into the infirmary. He sighed as he sat by Akio's bedside his heart dropping. Snow looked at him her eyes brimming with unshed tears.
   "I was afraid this might happen.. Akio has been running from these creeps for years." Snow said with sorrow in her voice. Grey looked up at her.
"What do you mean.. Did she know them?" He asked as he touched Akio's hand softly. Snow just nodded, she knew Akio wouldn't like her telling the story but she could tell Grey cared for her.
   "This was back when Akio's Dragon disappeared... She was seven years old and she wandered the mountains for three weeks searching for Frost.. but she was soon taken by a band of dark wizards.. because of her white eyes the leader of the dark guild saw her as a prize... They kept her as a slave for ten long years... she was raped and beaten constantly, then when she made her escape she found me and told me the story.." Snow completed the tale of Akio's past with tears sliding down her cheeks.
"I-I had no idea..." Grey spoke up his eyes wide with shock, he had a past too but not as bad as the one Akio had, it made his heart sink even more. He hung his head low, he was furious that he couldn't protect her.
Hours passed and soon Akio opened her eyes slowly, she made a small movement but cried out in pure agony. Hearing this Grey awoke and grabbed a hold of her hand.
  "You need to take it easy Akio, you've been injured pretty bad, don't waste your strength. I'll go get Gramps." He said as he got up and ran out of the infirmary. Akio watched him go her mind blank, she only remembered bits and pieces of what happened that day, one thing she remembered for sure was they way she was defiled, Akio bit her lip as her hands trembled. "I'm so weak... I-I let Grey get hurt.. I-I couldn't even fight.." She thought as tears threatened to fall from her eyes, she looked over and saw Snow sleeping by her soft and sound. Soon Grey walked back into the infirmary with Makarov right behind him.
"I'm glad you're awake, Akio my dear I was starting to worry." The master said as he let out a sigh of pure relief. Akio nodded her head, and tried to sit up again, she was still in pain but managed.
    "I-I'll be alright, I've been through worse pain than this." She said as she smiled, Soon Wendy came into the room.
    "Akio-san! I'm glad you're awake, I'm going to use some of my healing magic so it'll be easier for you to walk around without being in to much pain." The young bluenette said as she walked over to the bed placing her hands over Akio's body, soon her hands began to glow a soft green.
    "That feels so much better..." Akio said through a sigh of relief, as the pain began to fade. Grey watched her, as a new purpose began to grow in his heart.
    "From now on... I'll do my best to protect her.. even if it costs me my life." He thought as he walked out of the infirmary and into the Guild Hall.
