So, if you are just starting our roleplaying or you don't understand why people hate roleplaying with you, read this and it'll help you be a better and more tolerable role player :3 I am not targeting anyone in this, this is stuff I've seen and encountered and done myself.
Read every one!
1. Do NOT control another person's character or sub character. That means their animal, parents or the main character themselves. Ask permission if you'd like to be one of their characters, always ask permission for any plot twist too.2. Do not force a character to be perfect... is annoying, give them nice deep flaws
3. Don't rp solely for romance. The other role player might want to create an interesting story so don't rush into any romances! It'll make it more interesting and help your characters Gabe depth.
4. Please put all your thoughts into 1 comment. It gets confusing when you post a comment, someone responds but you add a continuation at the same time. It just gets confusing.
5. If you want to change your comment, make sure you do it when the other person is off or they let you. Don't just change it out of the blue and expect the roleplayer to respond to that one.
6. No interaction is concrete till the other roleplayer agrees. Instead of spiting our injuries to them, say 'aimed' or 'tried'. It gives the roleplay more openendedness and better toleration between role players.
7. Be creative when starting an rp, don't make your character run or walk away straight after, personally it's bothersome when people do that to me and it doesn't help the plot.
8.Don't continuously ask if the other person had an idea of what to do next, just keep the plot rolling and don't end the rp just because no action is happening just then. Just let there be calm sweet moments and come up with a build up as you go along.
9.Roleplaying is creating an interesting story with another person. Don't make it short and keep it going and make it interesting. Share ideas with the other person and always feel free so communicate between each other to help create more plot. Don't just have one character either, you don't need a form for everyone you create. An introduction to a secondary character in the roleplay will help keep it going and diversify it a bit. Just give them a small introduction and tell the other roleplayer of It's a major or minor character
10. You don't always have to have long, in depth comments. Half the time I can't come with with a different thing besides he/ she said and I just put dialogue. Describe it the best you can and don't just put 'Okay' ad dialogue and post.
11. Don't ask the person with the rp book to roleplay as one of the characters in the book.. it's just annoying because they created that character and you can mess up how they act. Stick to your own character, please.
12. Make sure you do have character development and some drama. If your character is the same as how they started... that's never good... don't make them bland either. There are so many over uses tropes that is getting annoying. The biggest one is the emo emotionless kid that is actually badass but doesn't change on the whole story.., just give your characters some reasons to why they are like this.
Mind have awful pasts..,don't give them that as their complete personality.13. Don't control the other character's feelings. Like don't say that in the back of their head they actually fell in love with your character. Give the other person the rights to their own thoughts, you aren't the only one creating this story. Let the other roleplayer decide if they'll fall in love with yours or not, it might just take time like normal.
14. Don't Time skip a lot and with wide gaps. If tou suddenly time skip to when they are married with four kids... within the first day of roleplaying with the other person... your characters don't have a connection and the roleplayer isn't use to your characters. Let there be development and time. It is way more interesting that way.
15. Roleplay in third person.. please? It's easier and you can add a lot more stuff. 1st person pov can get very very confusing.
16. Don't make me call all the shots.. I am not always full of interesting ideas right on the spot. I take time to think then tell. You share your ideas with me and let's discuss some interesting stuff before we make it happen.
17. Don't make your character such a big deal, build it up and your character will be a big deal to mine or the other roleplayer's characters.
18. Flaws are great to have... just not annoying flaws... like helpless... don't be completely helpless because it's hard to get stuff moving.
19. Don't make an injury that'll not be time skipped over. That is the biggest set back to any roleplays. If they keep hurting themselves then things will not move... it'll be boring and no plot can be made.
20. Don't be a whiny character... please don't. Don't let them get sad over everything or upset over silly things. Sulking characters that last for awhile again... stalls the plot. If they get mad over simple things or cry over everything, it gets annoying.
21. Don't rest the attention on your character, transfer it between characters. I was guilty of that at the beginning and I cringe when I think back. My characters were too depressed sometimes... I know it's hard creating friends for your characters just,,, don't make everyone hate your character in particular. Give reasons. My witch and vampire characters are hated due to past fears. The witch hunts and the fear of vampires even now are the backbone. My own creations, Shadow Snatchers, are to power hungry in their government so some hate them.
I wasn't targeting any specific roleplayers in this chapter, I was just naming things I have done in the past and stuff I've encountered or seen in the past. I've been roleplaying for like three years now... maybe four... idk so I know what roleplaying is like. :3
