"Hey dad!" I exclaimed as I walked through the front door.

"Hay is for horses!" I heard my dad holler from his office.

Chuckling I started to think about all he's done for me.

He's practically taught me how to do everything I know.

It's been just me and my dad.

My mom left us when I was two. I wouldn't go straight to the word left. I would says she disappeared into thin air.

The way my dad says it. He gets shivers. He tries to hide them as best as he can.

Almost as if he's hiding something from me.

Snapping back into reality I realized he was standing right in front of me.

"So, how was school?" He asked me. Walking over to the table and sitting down.

"You know that's the question everyone hates to hear. Right?"

I shot back.

Chuckling, he walked back over to me and placed his hands on my shoulders.

"How about we go do something?" He said to me.

"But I have homework." I said back.

I've never missed an assignment in my life. Let alone gotten a B+.

"That can wait."

He never says that.

Something must be wrong. Or he wants to tell me something.

"Okay, where are we going?"

"Out on the deck he said." And began to walk away. " I'll meet you out there!" he hollered behind his shoulder.

I walked past the kitchen.

There the glass door stood. Pulling it open I walked outside. A crisp cool breeze came. I sat on the deck. Waiting for my dad.

Just then the screen door opened. Turning around he stood there. With a small box wrapped in wrapping paper.

"This is for you." He said. Handing me the box.

"My birthday isn't until another month." I said a bit confused.

"I know, you just need it now." He said under his breath.

Taking the box I tore off the wrapping paper.

There was a small black box. Carefully opening the box there was a necklace.

It was on a sliver chain. There was a gem, it was teal. Around it was silver. It was the shape of a unicorn.

This was, by far, the best present I had ever gotten.

Pulling back my light brown hair I clasped my necklace on.

"Thanks!" I exclaimed, running up to my dad giving him a hug.

"That isn't just a necklace." He said, and then walked inside.
