Chapter three
I still hadn't been home, I kept drifting in and out of sleep within JoJo's loving arms. She woke up and got out of bed, I didn't even notice she did because I was asleep. I woke up and heard the shower running 'oh good idea JoJo shower is a good idea.’ I decided to wait till she came out of the shower. She came back into the room seeing me and shutting her bedroom door behind her. “Morning sleepy head!” She jumped into the bed next to me and kissed my cheek. I blushed as my phone started ringing. “One minute ok babe?” She nods as I take my phone call into the hallway.
“Barb where the hell are you? You haven't came home and you skipped school! You think this is some kind of joke? Get your ass home now.” I sighed and I remembered something. Today is my birthday and I turned 18. “No. I am 18 years old I no longer have to listen to you. I can come home whenever I want to!” I could sense my father's blood boil “fine! We are kicking you out miss 'im 18 and I need no rules!’ have a nice life kiddo!” He hangs up the phone and I return to JoJo's room sitting next to her.
“What's wrong?” I sighed as I started to cry “my father just kicked me out. Today's my birthday and I'm 18 and so far it isn't a good day.” She wrapped her arms around me. “You can stay here till you can find a place! I'm sure mom won't mind and I'll make today the best birthday ever for you!” She walked out of the room with her phone immediately making calls.
I smiled laying back on the bed 'I got an amazing girlfriend’ I said to myself. A few hours later we were in her car and she was driving me to the mall “ok first we need to get you a killer outfit!” She pulled into the mall and we go to famous footwear first. “You like high tops or heals?” I thought does she know me at all? She pulls out a amazing pair of converses. “I know you like them and your old pair well…” I looked down at my feet. She was right, I needed a new pair.
We then went off to men's wearhouse. “You like suits correct?” I nodded as we looked around the store seeing an amazing suit with embroidery all along the suit pants and the jacket. It was black with flames. “This is perfect!” She says as she saw what I was eyeing. We look over at the ties and she saw a flame fired looking bow tie to match the suit. We got it grabbing a blue button up shirt leaving there. “I know that the new Xbox just came out today soooo.” She pulls my hand as she takes me into GameStop.
“One Xbox one x please!” She buys it as well as she buys me games and some awesome socks. “So far how is your birthday Barb?” She asks me as we are walking out of the mall to the car. “So far? It's pretty amazing but not as amazing as my girlfriend.” I peck her cheek with a kiss and she blushes. “Well it's not done yet! We still got a nice dinner tonight just you wait.” I smiled as we got into the car I held her hand as it was on her lap as she drove. I loved this girl very much, she didn’t even know.
When we got back to the house, there was a young man sitting and waiting on the couch talking to JoJo’s mother. “Ah JoJo, meet Jack. He is 18 just like you and I think you guys would be a great couple!” Me and JoJo exchanged glares as I decided to slip away to the next room, I felt my heart almost breaking at the thought of having to have JoJo break up with me to make her mother happy by having her date Jack. I slipped off into the bathroom locking the door behind me sinking to the floor holding my knees to my chest as I cry. Shortly later, JoJo was knocking on the bathroom door. “Barb… please come out.” I cried more “No I won’t come out.” JoJo sat with her back to the otherside of the door humming a sweet familiar tune that she always used to hum when I was upset.
“Sweet dear Barb, you always never had lard. When we are far apart, we always would get in the cart…” She then added a line I have never heard before and it broke my heart “My baby I know it’s hard, but we will get through it-” She cuts off and bursts into tears. I got up and opened the door pulling her close to my chest as she cried. Me and her both just sat there crying on the cold bathroom floor. This has been one hell of an emotional Birthday I’d have to be honest. JoJo looked into my deep blue-green eyes with her water-blue eyes. “Barbra, I’m not leaving you to date Jack. I told my mom that I could not date him because I love someone else. I did not tell her who, I told her she would have to wait, but she would love them. Barbra, I love you.” She leaned in giving me a soft kiss on the lips.
She grabbed my hand and pulled me into the bedroom locking the door behind her. “We still have a dinner to get ready for, so why don’t you hop into the shower and get dressed ok?” I nodded my head, not saying a word to her. In the shower, I had a lot to think about. I thought about how her mother is trying to set her up with some boy when clearly, she loves someone else and that her mother has no reason to meddle in her love life, especially ours. I love JoJo to death, I couldn’t lose her as a friends, nor as a girlfriend. I got dressed into my suit and went into her room modeling off my amazing outfit she bought me. “You look fabulous babe,” She said to me as I sat down on the bed.
“Well, I have an amazing girlfriend to thank for that” I give her cheek a quick peck. She smiled and said “only one thing will make your outfit even more perfect.” She goes to her dresser and picks up a little box with a small red bow on it. “There is something I want to ask you tonight, but I’m going to wait until dinner.” She slips the box into her purse as she puts on an amazing red dress with a diamond necklace around her neck. “Damn girl you look fine,” I say to her as her face becomes just as red as the color of her dress. “Thank you, you don’t look so bad yourself Barb.” We get into the car and drive to this fancy steak restaurant.
“Reservation under Josephine Barker please.” Josephine was JoJos real name, I always called her JoJo because that’s what she liked. Although Josephine was a very pretty name. We sit at a table for two across from each other taking a look at our menus. “I will have a salad for starters than a 12 oz sirloin steak please,” She said “I’ll have the same.” Me and her always order the same meal typically, unless it’s pizza, she loves pineapple on her pizza. “So Barbra, today has been crazy and I wanted to make this a very special Birthday for you so I have a very serious question for you.” I nod my head as she gets down on one knee. “Will you, promise to someday be my wife?” She pulls out a promise ring from the little box. My eyes start to swell into tears as I mouth the words yes and throw my arms around her neck pulling her into a long deep kiss.
Everyone in the restaurant claps as me and her return to our seats and continue our amazing meal. Me and her make our way back out to the car and on the way home she stops at a little dimly lit park. “What are you up to JoJo?” I say as we exit the car. “What? Did you think the night was over so quickly? There is something I want to show you.” She pulls me under a tree where light-blue and white lights are hanging down onto a wooden stage. This is the place where me and her first met over 14 years ago by the sandbox. When we were 12, she had her first concert in the park. I was sitting in the front row listening to a beautiful angel singing “amazing grace.” She is truly a gift from God and I thank him every day for creating her.
She jumps onto the stage pulling out a guitar from backstage. “I wrote you a song from the day I first met you I knew something was there so for years I’ve been working on this song and I never thought I would be able to sing it for you. So now, I will sing this amazing song, for an amazing girl.”
A pretty girl standing by the slide
Never did I thought I could be by your side
Tonight here and now feels right
I feel higher than a kite
A beautiful girl meerly 18
Never did I think you could be my sweet
Amazing woman singing a song
That is how I would describe our love
My girl is great
She could always skate
Always skate right into my heart
Even when we were far apart...
I never wanted that night to end, I never wanted the song to end but I guess, even good things must come to an end, right? Or would we always be together? Would the religion drive us apart? I hoped not. That I’d never have to leave her for my love for her was great. I could never find another girl or boy great enough to match her.
