Leila's POV
Mother was disappointed in me as she watched me hide out another ball. After returning from that strange encounter outside. It seemed everyone was ready to begin dancing.
To me the refreshment tables were far more important than any man in this room. They were all freaks. I intently watched as one pulled out a hand sanitizing bottle and made the poor girl rub it upon her hands before touching her.
I was about to continue with the delicate chocolate pastries when the bitter rejects came to join my table. Did I really appear that lonely? I watched them bitterly gossip.
"Can you believe Charles dancing with plastic face? I swear I've seen dolls that are more natural"
"We are much too good for them! The men are probably intimidated" Another desperate voice reasoned.
"I could be engaged to the King if I wanted b-but I don't want to disappoint my dear Harold. He works in the castle you know?" Lady Elron boasted.
"We know, he's the one that washes the king's dishes" The lady snidely replied, snickering.
After that I quickly got up, so much desperation may influence my health. I watched as another ball ended and my mother silently took me outside with her.
Not a word was spoken as I got in the carriage ready to head home. I picked up a Newspaper from the floor and my jaw nearly dropped.
Upon the front cover, there he was! The same man I had seen when I went to the forest after the fight with Jasmine.
I softly pulled mother's sleeve.
"Who is this, mama?"
"Well, its Lord Hemsworth my dear! A very young and successful man, let me tell you this man waits for no one. Not that you'll ever meet him but I'm warning you, keep away from him. He is a man of many maidens, sworn to never marry. While he is a pleasure to see, he is cold and cut off" she quietly finished as father came in.
"Do not whisper in my presence dear, we have no secrets" Father looked sternly at mom shutting the carriage door.
I turned my back to them both, lost in thoughts. He surely must have forgotten me by now? Of course, he would have. I heeded mother's advice though. I would evade this man, for every man is a monster...
