CHAPTER 5

‘Ok, let me get this straight! You told them I was your girlfriend so that they would let you live in the same apartment as me!?’

‘Yep,’ Travis responded, with absolutely no sound of regret or apology. ‘They had those stupid regulations where girls and boys couldn’t live together unless they were related or romantically attached, and I was sort of desperate and needed a place to stay before University began, so I just told this little white lie.’

I was about to lose my head in sheer rage, his neck so tempting for my hands to be wrapped around and strangled. Nobody ever uses me to their advantage.

‘It’s no big deal.’ Travis said defensively, sensing my rising anger. ‘And anyways, you should be flattered that I offered to acknowledge you as my girlfriend in the first place, even if you are kind of… gross.’

I just wanted to throw something at this bastard with anything within my reach; unfortunately the only thing near me was a shoe box, much too heavy for me to pick up let alone throw. I bent down to open the first compartment, never letting my eyes off the target. Finding a pair of slippers, I grasped the fluffy footwear in my hands and attempted to throw them both with all my might, successfully hitting one in his face, the other flying past as he dropped onto his knees, knocking over a little vase with an abundant of daisies standing on one of the shelves in the living room. It crashed onto the floor and split into many fragments.

Travis looked up, his hands covering his face, madness in his eyes. I stood there defiantly, my feet planted firmly onto the ground. He didn’t scare me. I had survived my father’s death, my mother’s mourn; a cowardly boy who was allergic to cats would not be able to frighten me. Slamming his hands down onto the wooden floor with a loud ‘bam!,’ Travis growled unattractively, opening his mouth and baring his white teeth. At first he was much too angry to say anything.

‘Y-y-you pathetic, terrible, stubborn, egregious, horrible…’

Travis glared at me. I knew he was running out of smart adjectives to insult me with. I stood there impatiently, tapping my feet on the ground in irritation.

‘…bad, very bad person! Can you not see that my face is bruised enough?!’

‘Yes you must be in so much pain. May I remind you that you brought this on yourself?’

‘No I di-’

I cut him off before he could finish his sentence, fury boiling inside me.

‘It was a rhetorical question! I no longer have any interest in your matters! Now take your stuff and get out! I will die from a seizure if I ever see you and your face again!’

Thrusting my index finger towards the direction of the front door, I narrowed my eyes on his body, imagining lifting him with my non-existent psychic powers, opening the door and flinging him out of my apartment.

‘No you can’t make me!’

If only it were that easy.

‘I have a right to live here.’ Folding his arms across his chest in disobedience, he held his head high, refusing to move one step.

‘Um, no you don’t.’ I cried in frustration. ‘We’re not related, and not in a romantic attachment. So no, you do not have a right to live here. Get out!’

Travis didn’t move an inch. He stayed stuck to the floor like a tree. I groaned in disbelief, deciding to take matters into my own hands. I stomped up to him, grabbed his arm, the short, light brown hairs standing on end, and pulled as much as my strength would allow in hopes that I would be able to drag him outside. But Travis was much too strong. He must have worked out at the gym a lot to get such a sturdy body like this- something I would admire exceedingly if his personality were not to disgust me.
