Hey, Romeo...?

"Hey Romeo, what was the world like when you were a kid? If you ever even were one, of course."

Romeo spat out the water he had been drinking, eyes widened. Jesse hesitated, wondering if maybe he shouldn't have asked. But the redhead soon calmed down, wiping his mouth and giving the brown haired young man an odd look. "Where the heck did that come from?"

Jesse flushed slightly, rubbing the back of his neck. "I dunno? I guess it's been at the back of my mind. Can you answer it?"

Romeo shuffled, making an 'eeee' noise and waving his hands uncertainly, and ended up sighing and slumping. "I, erm... I would rather not talk about it, if it's all the same to you???"

Jesse immediately nodded, apologetic. "Yeah, that's alright. Sorry for making you uncomfortable"

"S'ok.." the ex-admin mumbled, flushed slightly as he edged out of the room.

"The fuck do you want to know for? Seriously, what?" came a voice from the corner, and Jesse jumped. "Woah! Xara, i didn't see you there- when did you come in???"

Xara rolled her eyes. "Answer the freaking question"

"Well... I just can't forget what Fred said back in the terminal space" the hero admitted, eyes lowering. He noticed Xara tense. "He said that the gauntlet would turn Romeo back to how he was - this implying he was a human, surely? So i was... Curious. That's all, i swear."

"Well.." Xara let out a puff of air. "There's a reason we've never mentioned it. It's not something we like talking about"

Jesse drooped. "Sorry.."

The purple haired woman rolled her eyes and noogied him, ignoring his protests and fumbled attempts to fix his hair. "It's okay. Maybe someday we'll tell you. But I don't think either of us are ready right now"

The boy nodded. "That's fine. I can wait."

She nodded too and they parted ways.

---A Month Later---

Skidding down the stone 'slide', Petra landed with relative grace on her hands and legs. The rest of her team were not so lucky, and ended up in various positions on their backs or fronts.

This dungeon had been emitting some kind of 'aura', apparently? That's what Xara had told them. So Jesse, Petra, Xara and even Romeo tagged along.

Jesse and Petra for the brawn, Xara for the brains, Romeo in case this needed magical fuckery since he kinda seemed to still have some sparkles left in his system, if the levitation of small objects and breif flight were anything to go by.

"Dang, this place sure feels magical" Petra murmered, eyes darting about as her body registered the odd ambient sensation - as though the air itself were made from some sort of charged spiderweb netting.

Romeo shrugged, picking at the bandage on his wrist. "Eh? Maybe to you two it is, but this is pretty low level compared to what I've been used to"

Petra rolled her eyes. "Not all of us were psycho gods, alright?" she snapped without any real malice behind her words. Next to her Jesse shook his head, still disoriented from falling flat on his face. "Let's just investigate, guys?"

Stepping through mazes of rooms, most of which required avoiding a multitude of tripwires and tnt, they were quick to collect several interesting looking artifacts.

"Nothing magical yet.." Petra hummed. "Though I'm proper feeling a magical sensation right now. It's like the air is tugging at me.." she picked at her skin with a disgusted look on her face, and Jesse shivered. "Same, it's a tad invasive feeling..."

Xara shrugged. "Still unaffected. Sucks to be you" Romeo smiled slightly and she pretended not to have seen it. She looked ahead, to the last room to be checked. The door was covered in blocks of ancient text, glowing irractically.

"Woah, i wish we had brought Lukas along.." Jesse breathed, running his fingers over the indents. "I've never seen this language before... How are we supposed to get this o.... pen...?"

Much to his suprise and extreme confusion Romeo had stepped up next to him and was reading the language perfectly under his breath.

"စွမ်းအား..
အချိန်...
အဆိုပါထိုက်တန်....
ပြရန်!"

The door made an odd noise akin to a clicking merged with a grinding, and with a skid it had slid open and the way forwards was opened.

Jesse blinked multiple times, stunned. "W-what?"

"ကြှနျုပျ၏ဘာသာစကား" Romeo stated, and when Jesse kept staring incomprehensibly, the unintelligble speaker flushed and spoke English again. "My language. Sorry for, erm... Let's move on" he rushed past the bewildered boy, and as Petra just shrugged and followed after, Xara's face had become unnaturally cold and neutral.

Jesse nervously followed after them.

There, situated in the middle of the room, sat a podium, an egg-shaped stone placed atop, an onyx colour with eye bleedingly bright blue markings that seemed to emit the aura they had been feeling throughout the dungeon at an intense level.

This was apparently too much for the usually confident bandana-toting adventurer, for the ginger apologised and moved to the doorway, clutching her head and wincing.

Jesse too, while he did not go to the door, was also experiencing an extremely uncomfortable feeling, unable to supress a quiet grunt.

Xara, while still much better off, would be lying if she said she couldn't feel it now. Romeo felt it even less, but could still understand the air was heavier.

And so the post-admin pair were the ones to approach the stone, Romeo being the one to pick it up.

They left the dungeon quickly, as Petra appeared to be growing rather sick. The moment they stepped out she gagged and clutched at her neck, before relaxing. "Thank heavens" she groaned. Jesse silently echoed the sentiment, making sure they were both several feet away from the egg.

Romeo studied the egg, moving it around in his hands. "Huh. The runes on this are ancient- some are in my language but some are older..."

Jesse blinked slowly. "What IS your language?"

Romeo looked extremely uncomfortable again suddenly. "မြန်မာ"

"...what"

"I don't know how to translate it to English, okay?" he groaned, tone edgy and cut short. Jesse raised a brow in bemusement.

Romeo looked away, hands trembling slightly. "Let's just... Go back to Beacontown"

After hesitation, Jesse nodded in assent.

The walk back was silent.
