Chapter 3:
Emily P.O.V.
As I stood there with my eyes closed, hugging Mikey, I heard some shuffling behind me. I just ignored it though, it was probably just Mike. I closed my eyes again, enjoying the fee the fee of having Mikey back. I head the door open and snapped my eyes open.
Keith.
I knew I was forgetting something. Shit. Now he’s seen me melt, he’ll surely hold it against me. ‘Aw man, I’m so screwed.
My thoughts were whirring with what I was going to do. ‘Where have you been Em? I was told you were dead!’ My thoughts snapped back to the present as Mikey pulled back out of the hug.
‘Me? You’re the one who went off to college; I left a letter with your parents for you. Didn’t they give it to you?’ my confusion was evident. Mr and Mrs Connors were lovely people from what I could remember of them. ‘Why wouldn’t they give Michael the letter..?!’
‘My parent didn’t give me any letter. They told me you had been hit by a car! And that your family moved away because they couldn’t bear the memories’ My eyes widened considerably.
‘What? Whoa...I always thought your parents liked me, why would they tell you that!??’I couldn’t understand it, why would they lie...
‘They seemed so sincere. They explained to me that I was better off without you, so now I could go and get a girlfriend and get married...I-I think, maybe, they thought we were hooked on each other. That we would get married...and I don’t think they approved...; he frowned, deep in thought.
I scoffed. ‘Your parents are mental. I mean come on, we’ve known each other nearly all our lives, if we were going to get together we would have. Although I was only fourteen at the time so, maybe not...’ I grimaced at the thought ‘And besides, you’re like six years older than me, I don’t think you were a paedophile...? Right?’ I widened my eyes then grinned when he shook his head vigorously.
‘I’m kidding!’
He smiled ‘’I got that...so why di you guys move here then?’ he questioned leaning against his desk.
I shrugged ‘dad picked it.’
‘What’s it like here?’ he looked genuinely interested.
‘It’s actually really nice. There’s a rough part of the town but everywhere has that. The pool is cool. Nice Park. Nice people. Well, the people are lovely actually. I’ve made some good friends here.’ He nodded.
‘Like that Keith boy? He suggested, not realising at all who Keith was to mw.
‘Pft. No, not like Keith. Keith is a you-know-what. He’s practically my worst enemy.’
‘Oh.’ Was his short reply. ‘Okay then, well I have got to go. There is a staff meeting in ten.’ I glanced at my watch, it was 6 o’clock already. We had been talking for nearly two hours. Wow.
‘Okay, I should get home anyway. You should come over some day Mike. I’m sure they’d be happy to see you again.’ I grinned at him.
‘Sure, that sounds great. And if you ever want to come over to mine gimme a buzz. Oh, right, here’s my number.’ He took a piece of paper and wrote it down.
‘Thanks Mikey.’ I grabbed my bag. ‘Bye!’ I walked out the door with a smile on my face. The first genuine smile since we moved here....
