Jesse grinned and sauntered through the halls towards the entrance, pulling his cell phone out of his pocket and flipping it open to call Badger and tell him he wanted to accept the offer from earlier.

He had had enough of Mr. White's shit. Enough of everyone's shit. He didn't need anyone but himself making his life decisions.

Jesse pushed through the front doors of the high school and headed towards the corner to wait for Badger, wishing he had a cigarette. Once he got to his destination, he glanced at the bus stop across the street only to see one of the prettiest girls he'd ever encountered, blowing out smoke through pursed lips.

He couldn't look away, mesmerized by how picturesque she looked. She turned her head and their eyes met. Neither of them looked away for a few moments, and then she gave him a soft smile. Jesse was about to return the gesture when a car came speeding down the street, blasting rap music. They both broke their gaze to watch Badger slam to a stop right in front of Jesse.

"Hop in, brother!" he yelled out the window smiling enthusiastically at his friend.

Jesse glanced back up at the girl, but her eyes were now quizzically fixated on the car that had appeared yet she had a humorous look on her face.

Opening the car door, Jesse got in, pulling his eyes and mind away from her. He greeted Badger and they sped off to their destination.

As they drove along, Jesse wanted to reflect on the interaction that had just happened, but his thoughts were pulled away on a tangent. He suddenly realized the magnitude of the decision he had just made. He had just stormed out of school, there was no way his parents were going to let him stay at their house any longer.

Jesse scratched his face nervously, hoping he would be able to sell a couple 8-balls today and find a cheap car he could crash in overnight. He stared at the road ahead of him intensely, determined to succeed.
