“Hey man, do you need a ride home?”
I didn’t hear a single word that was spoken to me. Jessica had to call my name four times just to get me out of my trance.
“Huh? What did you say?” I asked, rubbing my eyes. Man I need some sleep. Last night was full of too much partying and not enough bed time. I really didn’t want to go to Derek’s stupid party at first. He throws them all the time and every time nothing new happens. But last night, there were just too many good looking girls to leave. All of them knew my name and everything about the band. They were tall and sexy enough to be models, wearing next to nothing in heels. Now that’s my kind of girl.
The next thing I knew it was five o’ clock in the morning, I was in my boxers, and there was a blonde passed out and smearing eyeliner on my chest. I didn’t know where the hell I was, or who that girl was laying on me, but I called Niki to come pick me up and we booked it out of there like there was no tomorrow.
“You’re only eighteen and you’re already a bachelor,” she told me while driving me home. I smiled, but she frowned in response. I guess she thought this was no laughing matter. What happened to her? She never used to be this serious before.
“Is there something wrong with that?” I chuckled, running my hand through my dark hair. We were driving in Niki’s Spider with the hood down so I was putting on a show for the girls in the car next to us. They laughed too. What’s so bad about making girls laugh?
“Don’t you realize what you’re doing?” She practically yelled at me. She turned to face me and almost missed a red light.
“What am I doing?” I ask dully.
“Ugh!” She threw her hands up in the air. Good thing we weren’t moving. “Don’t you see? There are girls--a girl in particular--who really likes you, but you pay no attention because she’s no Paris Hilton. You know, you don’t have to date sluts all of the time. Give me a break.” She rolled her eyes. “I like sex just as much as the next person, but you don’t see me chasing every tail I see. Control yourself, man.”
“Wait, hold on. She? Who is this she you were referring to?”
“Is that the only thing you heard out of all of that?!”
Yup, but I didn’t tell her that.
“Ugh! You’re unbelievable!”
“You know it,” I said, snapping my finger and pointing it at the car next to us with a wink. The girls in there practically fainted. A guy--probably one of their boyfriends--looked like he wanted to kick my ass.
Niki yelled at me again, but I wasn’t really listening. She has a way about going on lecturing me. Like she gave birth to me or something.
“So you’re really not going to tell me who this girl is?”
“Are you kidding me, Ted?” I shrugged my shoulders. I was actually seriously curious about this girl she was talking about. Most girls I date have the courage to approach me, but then again, most girls I date are just flings. I’ve never really had much of anything else.
“Hey, you’re the one who mentioned it,” I said. Why would she just tell me about this girl and keep her name a secret? She knows that’s just a tease for me. “I can get any girl I want. If this girl really wants to date me that bad and she’s not too grotesque looking, I might just have a go at her.”
“That’s exactly the problem Ted. You just can’t have a go at this girl. She’s…she’s special. And she deserves better than the likes of you, but maybe I can chip a little off the edge here and there. You might be workable.”
“There’s not going to be any work done on me,” I argue. I am who I am. There’s no changing it and it’s not like I want to change my lifestyle anyway. My band is doing great, I’ve been actually getting paid to do what I love to do, and the girls, well, they can’t get enough of me. It’s not like I can blame them or anything.
“Why, why won’t you just give it a shot? For her?”
“Maybe,” I said, folding my arms across my chest. “But why don’t you tell me who this girl is first.”
After sighing, cursing profusely, and stepping on the gas at the light change, she took a deep breath and said, “Look, I shouldn’t be telling you this, and I don’t really know for sure, but I think that Honey really likes you.”
“WHAT?” I exploded and then began to laugh. The girls in the car next to us gave me a strange look before turning in the right lane. “You’re really crazy, you know that? The three of us have been best friends for ten years--matter of fact, today’s our anniversary--and I’ve never heard Honey say anything like that before. We’re friends, that’s it. She’s like my little sister or something.”
Niki snickered knowingly, but there was nothing to know. Honey and I are just friends. Nothing less, nothing more.
“Yea, or something,” she repeated, with that smile still on her face.
“And not to mention--she’s not even close to my type,” I said defensively. Niki was jumping to way too many conclusions on her own. Where the hell was all of this coming from all of a sudden? “And before you say anything, my type is not in the Paris Hilton category. I like to think it’s more in the blonde, Megan Fox type, you know? God, I have standards, Niki.”
“Yea, whatever,” she said, and then we both started to laugh, but the entire time I couldn’t get Honey out of my head.

“Ted? Are you even listening to me?” Cool hands touched the side of my face and turned my head toward their owner. Jessica was looking at me with concern. Her red lips were pouted, and her green eyes were lowered. She wore a lot of makeup, but on her it didn’t look bad. She could be painted up like a canvas and dressed as Santa Claus and still look good. Sexy doesn’t begin to describe her.
“Oh, uh, yea, I was.”
She gave me a disbelieving look but didn’t say anything else like Niki might have if I was zoning out on her.
“So? Do you need a ride home or not?” She kissed my lips softly and I licked away her red gloss sensually while I thought about it. It tasted like cherries. “You know, you can always come back to my place. I can think of a few things we can do there.”
“Oh really?” Damn she was so sexy. She sat on my lap and began to rub my thigh, her hand moving further and further up my leg. “Hmm…okay. Yea, that sounds good.”
I hopped in her car after we returned our robes back to the school, stuck my diploma in my bag, and sat back as Jessica drove us off into the distance, wondering whether or not I was doing the right thing.
