Chapter 6

With her face still frozen in shock Ali quickly tried to slide the file under the pillow, hoping that Carter wouldn’t notice.

“Nothing, nothings here just me writing in my diary” Ali said, trying to put a smile on her face.

“Your diary is a file that looks a lot like the ones that Ms. Vier keeps in her office?” Carter said taking a step closer to the bed Ali was sitting on.

“Yes actually, I lost my diary at the... uhh… airport… so I used a spare file that I… uhh… found” She said smiling, satisfied with her excuse.

“Your diary?  Really? You think I’m that stupid?” He said.

“It is my diary!” Ali argued back.

 “No it’s not! Obviously you are snooping around my mom’s stuff!” Carter said his face turning red with anger.

“I was not snooping around…wait… why did you call Ms. Vier your mom?”

“I didn’t mean to say that it just came out.” Carter sat on the bed next to Ali. “I talk nonsense when I’m frustrated.”  He said running his hand through his hair.

“Carter, you can’t just say something like that without having a reason…”

Well… I just… it’s complicated…” He said looking at the ground.

“You can tell me” Ali said taking his hand.

“It’s not exactly something I can share without getting into trouble.”

“Who would you get into trouble with?” Ali said, trying to get the truth out of him.

“I’ve said to much already…” he said standing up.

Ali quickly pulled him back down to the bed. “Please tell me, you will feel so much better if you do.”

“I don’t know I just…”

But before he could finish Ali moves closer to him and planted a soft kiss on his lips. Even though it was short Ali could already feel the fireworks between them.

“Please… tell me” Ali whispered.

“Ok fine… Ms. Vier is actually my mother… she had an affair and that’s how I was born. She never told anyone that I was her son because she didn’t want Mr. Vier to know that she had an affair so she had my dad raise me until I was old enough to come and live here so she could get to know me again without anyone knowing that I was really her son… oh gosh I really shouldn’t be telling you all this.”

“It’s ok. I promise I won’t tell anyone” Ali said looking into his eyes.

“Thank you” Carter whispered.

“No problem” Ali said pulling him into a hug.

‘Well this makes things interesting’ Ali thought while hugging Carter tightly… knowing that she was breaking some major rules by getting so close to him.
